This contract role will help advance WebGPU support across Linux and Android by addressing high-priority correctness, validation, and security issues.
You’ll work within a large systems and graphics codebase, contributing fixes to both the open-source wgpu project and Gecko.
The role combines hands-on Rust development with deep debugging, testing, and conformance work.
You’ll investigate real-world application blockers, CTS failures, security issues, and fuzzing findings.
Working closely with maintainers and module owners, you’ll participate in public code review and upstream fixes.
Your contributions will directly reduce release blockers and help move WebGPU toward broader platform availability.
This is an opportunity to make focused, measurable contributions to widely used open-source browser and graphics technology.

Fix prioritized correctness, validation, security, and fuzzing issues affecting the WebGPU implementation, including items tracked across current, CTS, Linux release, and Android release workstreams.
Diagnose and resolve application blockers involving real-world WebGPU applications, demos, and compatibility issues in Firefox Nightly.
Investigate and address WebGPU Conformance Test Suite failures and reduce expected-failure backlogs.
Develop robust fixes in Rust, write and maintain appropriate tests, and validate changes against relevant edge cases and system behavior.
Contribute changes upstream to the wgpu open-source project and integrate appropriate fixes into Gecko.
Participate in code reviews with wgpu maintainers and Gecko module owners, responding to technical feedback and maintaining high-quality implementations.
Coordinate with the WebGPU engineering team to select and prioritize well-defined issues and align work with release objectives.
Apply strong debugging and security practices when investigating validation bugs, corner cases, vulnerabilities, and fuzzing findings.
Deliver reviewed fixes that measurably reduce P2/P3 issues, application blockers, and CTS failures while supporting WebGPU availability on Linux and Android.

Requirements

Strong professional experience with Rust and the ability to work effectively in low-level systems code.
Experience contributing to or maintaining a large systems, graphics, browser, or similarly complex codebase, with the ability to become productive quickly in wgpu.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex technical issues, including validation failures, corner cases, application compatibility problems, and fuzzing findings.
Comfortable working in open-source development environments involving public issues, upstream contributions, technical discussions, and code reviews.
Strong understanding of software testing and the ability to create tests that validate correctness and prevent regressions.
Experience with WebGPU, GPU programming, graphics infrastructure, or modern graphics APIs such as Vulkan, DirectX/D3D 11/12, or Metal is highly valuable.
Familiarity with graphics or shader technologies such as WGSL, HLSL, MSL, or SPIR-V is an advantage.
Low-level Android graphics experience is a plus.
Experience with application security, fuzzing, or the web security model is an advantage.
Prior contributions to wgpu are particularly valuable.
Ability to work independently on clearly scoped technical problems while collaborating effectively with maintainers and a distributed engineering team.
Strong written communication skills and comfort incorporating feedback through asynchronous, open-source workflows.
