Review and analyze acute inpatient clinical documentation to accurately assign and sequence ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes.

Validate MS-DRG assignments to ensure diagnoses and procedures are accurately reflected in the clinical record.

Abstract relevant clinical data, including diagnoses, procedures, and discharge disposition, following thorough documentation review.

Identify documentation gaps and support appropriate provider queries or clarification when required for accurate and compliant coding.

Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and provider information in accordance with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.

Provide coding guidance and support to client staff when needed, including assistance with data integrity and compliant coding practices.

Participate in client meetings, staff meetings, training sessions, conference calls, and other collaborative activities as required.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, coding guidelines, government regulations, and third-party billing requirements.

Complete ongoing education and professional development activities to strengthen coding expertise and maintain applicable credentials.

Follow organizational compliance policies and procedures, promptly escalating potential compliance concerns or incidents when identified.

Perform other related coding and administrative responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements

At least 2 years of recent, hands-on acute inpatient coding experience across applicable inpatient record types.

An active AHIMA credential, such as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS, or an active AAPC credential, such as COC, CCS-P, CPC, or a related specialty certification.

Successful completion of the required pre-employment skills assessment.

Strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding principles, MS-DRG methodology, and applicable coding and reimbursement guidelines.

Demonstrated ability to interpret complex clinical documentation and accurately translate diagnoses and procedures into appropriate codes.

Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and commitment to coding accuracy and data integrity.

Ability to handle confidential patient and client information with discretion and maintain strict HIPAA compliance.

Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate professionally with healthcare staff and providers.
