The Manager, Commercial Accounting will oversee critical accounting activities supporting product revenue, gross-to-net reserves, accounts receivable, inventory, and cost of goods sold.
This role will play an important part in maintaining accurate financial reporting while supporting commercialization initiatives within a life sciences environment.
You will partner closely with Trade & Distribution, Market Access, CMC, Commercial teams, and third-party providers to ensure reliable accounting processes and data.
The position combines hands-on accounting leadership with opportunities to improve controls, automate processes, and strengthen reporting across the revenue cycle.
You will contribute to product launches and new commercial arrangements while ensuring accounting implications are appropriately evaluated and documented.
As part of a fully remote organization, the role requires strong independence, cross-functional communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Manage the monthly close process for product revenue, gross-to-net reserves, accounts receivable, and other commercial accounting activities.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and documentation for revenue-related accounts.
  • Ensure revenue recognition is accurately recorded in accordance with ASC 606.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation supporting revenue accounting conclusions, estimates, and methodologies.
  • Manage monthly close activities related to inventory and cost of goods sold.
  • Oversee inventory valuation, reserves, reconciliations, and related accounting analyses.
  • Review inventory information from third-party logistics providers and ensure transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Monitor inventory movements, adjustments, write-offs, returns, and reserve calculations.
  • Partner with Trade & Distribution, CMC, and external providers to investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Support physical inventory counts and related reconciliations performed by third-party providers.
  • Prepare and maintain gross-to-net reserve calculations covering rebates, chargebacks, returns, prompt-pay discounts, distribution service fees, copay assistance, and other commercial deductions.
  • Collaborate with Market Access, Government Pricing, and Commercial teams to develop accurate reserve methodologies and assumptions.
  • Perform actual-to-estimate analyses and recommend updates to reserve methodologies when appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary accounting liaison with third-party logistics providers, distributors, and other commercial partners.
  • Oversee third-party-managed order-to-cash activities, including product sales, invoicing, collections, cash applications, deductions, and dispute resolution.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable balances and review customer balances, aging reports, collections activity, and related reporting.
  • Support customer credit risk assessments, credit limits, and mitigation strategies in coordination with commercial and finance leadership.
  • Partner with Market Access, CMC, and Trade & Distribution teams on commercialization initiatives and product launches.
  • Help design and implement processes and controls for new distribution channels, customer programs, and launch activities.
  • Support commercial contract reviews and evaluate their accounting implications.
  • Prepare schedules and analyses supporting quarterly and annual financial reporting.
  • Assist with external audits, regulatory reporting, SOX compliance, control execution, documentation, and remediation.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation related to revenue accounting.
  • Identify opportunities for greater efficiency, automation, reporting, and data analytics across the revenue accounting cycle.
  • Participate in ERP implementations, system enhancements, and integration projects.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop team members while promoting accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification is preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including commercial accounting experience within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 revenue recognition, gross-to-net accounting, inventory, and cost of goods sold.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical order-to-cash processes, including accounts receivable, deductions, and customer reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting inventory accounting within a commercial-stage biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences organization.
  • Experience working with third-party logistics providers, wholesalers, and other commercial service providers.
  • Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with NetSuite or another large ERP system.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Public accounting and/or publicly traded company experience is preferred.
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance and internal controls is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with an emphasis on scalability, automation, and operational excellence.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%, including occasional travel outside the local area and overnight stays.
