This is an opportunity to join a small, collaborative engineering team building products used by learners and tutors around the world.
You’ll own full-stack features from early concepts and experiments through deployment and iteration.
The role combines hands-on software development with product thinking, user research, and close collaboration with designers and stakeholders.
You’ll help solve challenges at the intersection of technology, user experience, safety, and scalable peer-to-peer learning.
Engineers are encouraged to take meaningful ownership, make thoughtful technical decisions, and stay close to the people using what they build.

Your work will directly contribute to helping students learn, connect, and develop skills for a changing world.

Work closely with users, teammates, designers, and stakeholders to understand problems, generate product ideas, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Own full-stack features from prototypes and experiments through production deployment, iteration, and ongoing refinement.
Scope technical work, evaluate tradeoffs, and make implementation decisions with support from experienced engineers when needed.
Build intuitive, reliable features that address learner and tutor needs while supporting a safe, high-quality user experience.
Write simple, readable, maintainable code that can evolve as the product and user base grow.
Contribute to experiments and new product initiatives, including tools that improve tutoring, learner-to-tutor connections, and platform safety.
Participate actively in code reviews and pairing sessions to maintain engineering quality and share knowledge across the team.
Collaborate across product, design, operations, and engineering to move projects forward in an environment where priorities can evolve quickly.
Take ownership of problems beyond your immediate technical scope when doing so can create better outcomes for users.

Requirements

3+ years of professional experience as a full-stack software engineer, with a demonstrated track record of building and shipping full-stack features.
Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React, Next.js, and PostgreSQL, or the ability to become productive with these technologies quickly.
Ability to explain technical and product tradeoffs clearly and demonstrate sound reasoning behind implementation decisions.
Strong user orientation, with an ability to understand user needs and translate them into practical product and engineering solutions.
Ability to move quickly while maintaining a high standard of code quality, maintainability, and reliability.
Comfortable working independently, identifying gaps, asking for help when appropriate, and taking initiative to solve problems.
Willingness to contribute beyond a narrowly defined role when another approach or responsibility can better serve users.
Availability to work within a U.S. time zone.
Strong communication, collaboration, empathy, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred: Deep experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React, Next.js, PostgreSQL, AWS, and GCP.
Preferred: Experience developing mobile applications.
Preferred: Background in education, ed-tech, or products designed around learning and student outcomes.
