Through scheduled phone or video sessions, you will help caregivers navigate challenges and connect with relevant resources and services.
The role is part of a research study focused on supporting caregivers of people living with Alzheimer's disease.
You will work within an established intervention protocol while receiving training, supervision, and ongoing support from the study team.
Strong listening skills, compassion, reliability, and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries are essential to building trusting relationships.

Deliver a structured peer navigation intervention to an assigned caseload of family caregivers through scheduled one-on-one telephone or video sessions over several weeks.

Draw on personal caregiving experience to establish rapport, validate caregiver experiences, provide emotional support, and model practical coping strategies.

Maintain professional boundaries while creating a supportive, respectful, and empathetic environment for participants.

Share practical information and help caregivers identify, access, and connect with relevant community, healthcare, and support resources.

Recognize signs of caregiver distress or potential risk and promptly escalate concerns to the principal investigator or study team according to established procedures.

Accurately and promptly document participant contacts, including session notes, contact logs, fidelity measures, and other required study data.

Complete required study-specific intervention training before working with participants and participate in ongoing supervision and case reviews.

Attend team meetings and maintain regular communication with the study coordinator and principal investigator regarding caseloads, scheduling, participant needs, and intervention delivery.

Contribute insights based on lived caregiving experience to help refine intervention materials and improve the peer support approach.

Protect participant privacy and confidentiality while adhering to HIPAA, IRB, human-subjects research, and other applicable study requirements.

Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements

Personal lived experience as a former family caregiver for a relative or close friend with Alzheimer's disease is the essential qualification for this role.

High school diploma, equivalent certification, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

No specific professional certification or driver's license is required.

Willingness and ability to complete required intervention training and participate in ongoing supervision, case review, and team meetings.

Strong interpersonal and active-listening skills, with the empathy and emotional awareness needed to support caregivers experiencing challenging circumstances.

Ability to build rapport while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and handling sensitive conversations with discretion.

Strong reliability, organization, time management, and follow-through when managing scheduled participant contacts and documentation.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and accurately handle sensitive participant information and study data.

Comfort using telephone and video-based communication tools in a remote environment.

Adaptability and cultural empathy, with the ability to work respectfully with caregivers from diverse backgrounds and communities.

Prior experience in peer support, caregiver or patient navigation, community health, or work supporting older adults with serious illness is preferred.

Familiarity with community resources, motivational interviewing, telehealth, data entry, or caregiver education is an advantage.
