This is a full-time, fully remote coding opportunity supporting accurate, compliant, and timely medical coding across a range of specialties.
You’ll review clinical documentation, assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes, and help ensure records support accurate reimbursement and billing.
The role has a strong focus on physician coding, documentation quality, compliance, and resolving account and charging issues.
You’ll work closely with physicians, non-physician providers, revenue cycle teams, and other stakeholders to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy.
The position offers the opportunity to apply your expertise across multiple specialties, with significant volume in Hospitalist, Intensivist, and Medical Specialties areas.
Success requires strong attention to detail, independent judgment, productivity, and the ability to maintain accuracy while managing competing priorities.
You can work remotely from anywhere in the United States while contributing to critical healthcare revenue-cycle and compliance processes.

  • Review and interpret medical record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures relevant to inpatient stays and outpatient encounters.

  • Assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and appropriate modifier codes based on documented diagnoses, procedures, and clinical services.

  • Complete coding, charging, and account abstraction accurately and within required daily timelines for assigned specialty areas.

  • Review documentation to ensure records support accurate coding, appropriate reimbursement, compliant billing, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Identify missing or incomplete documentation and communicate with physicians, non-physician providers, and other appropriate stakeholders to obtain the information required for accurate coding.

  • Monitor provider documentation and perform coding audits to assess accuracy and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Provide education and feedback to providers when documentation or coding issues are identified.

  • Research and resolve missing charges, problem accounts, and reimbursement-related issues by analyzing relevant financial and clinical information.

  • Support Revenue Cycle Operations with claim development and account-resolution activities.

  • Maintain and expand coding knowledge through quality reviews, clinical education sessions, coding seminars, internal meetings, reference materials, and updates to coding guidelines and manuals.

  • Ensure coding and billing data is accurate, complete, and sufficient to support clean claims and appropriate reimbursement.

  • Maintain productivity and quality standards while managing assigned workloads and adapting to changing priorities.

  • Collaborate effectively with clinical and administrative teams to support coding compliance and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current professional HIM or medical coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC.

  • At least 2 years of professional medical coding experience.

  • Experience with physician-office coding is preferred, particularly at least 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical coding principles.

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately apply ICD-10, CPT, and modifier coding requirements.

  • Strong understanding of documentation requirements, reimbursement principles, compliance standards, and coding guidelines.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy during frequent interruptions and high-volume workloads.

  • Strong independent decision-making and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize assignments, organize workloads, and consistently meet quality and productivity expectations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clinical and nonclinical stakeholders.

  • Ability to handle high-stress situations professionally and adapt effectively to changes in the workplace.

  • Strong follow-through and ability to organize and complete assigned tasks independently.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment and maintain consistent productivity and communication.

  • Comfortable working extensively with computers, electronic medical records, spreadsheets, and other digital tools.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform the computer-based functions required for the role.

  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 10–20 pounds when required by the work environment.
