Python Engineer

Join a globally distributed engineering environment where Python is used to build reliable, maintainable, and high-quality software across a broad open-source technology ecosystem. In this role, you may contribute to products spanning server infrastructure, Kubernetes, desktop applications, web services, utilities, frameworks, and production tooling. You will work alongside engineers across different time zones, contributing to technically ambitious projects and solving complex engineering challenges. Beyond writing code, you will help shape software quality through testing, documentation, performance, and thoughtful design. The role also provides opportunities to contribute to open-source communities and influence technical practices beyond your immediate team. You will have the autonomy to work remotely while collaborating with colleagues and communities around the world.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, STEM, or a related discipline, or a compelling alternative professional background.
• Demonstrated professional experience developing modern, maintainable Python software.
• Strong experience with Python programming, software design, testing, debugging, and code quality.
• Professional experience working with Linux, particularly Debian or Ubuntu-based environments.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, with attention to performance, reliability, maintainability, and security.
• Ability to work independently, organise priorities, and consistently deliver against commitments and schedules.
• Excellent written and spoken English, with strong communication and presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with globally distributed colleagues and technical communities.
• Curiosity, flexibility, accountability, thoughtfulness, and a strong commitment to continuous learning.
• A self-starting and results-oriented approach, with a demonstrated willingness to take initiative and exceed expectations.
• Passion for open-source software, technology, innovation, and high-quality engineering.
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally approximately twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.
• Experience with container technologies such as LXD, Docker, or Kubernetes is a plus.
• Familiarity with build systems, toolchains, and cross-compilation is advantageous.
• Additional programming experience in languages such as Go, Rust, C, or C++ is beneficial.
• Experience with web or Flutter front-end development, REST or gRPC APIs, SQL or NoSQL databases, public cloud platforms, or OpenStack is a plus.
• Additional experience with Debian/Ubuntu packaging, systems programming, scalable web services, performance engineering, or security is highly valuable.
