The Senior Accountant will play a central role in maintaining accurate, reliable, and timely financial operations for a global nonprofit organization. You will oversee day-to-day accounting activities spanning accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll support, general ledger management, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The role also supports consolidated financial reporting across international entities and requires strong attention to detail across multi-currency transactions. You will work closely with the Finance Manager, CFO, and international colleagues to maintain consistent accounting processes and reporting standards. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization while managing a broad range of finance responsibilities. Occasional travel and flexibility around international time zones are part of the role.
- Maintain accurate accounts receivable and grants receivable aging reports, review grant agreements for appropriate revenue recognition, and record and code revenue accurately.
- Create, maintain, and close grant and program codes across accounting, purchasing card, and accounts payable systems.
- Maintain the accounts payable system, troubleshoot synchronization issues, process bank feeds, and support the AP Administrator with related activities.
- Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring appropriate coding, approvals, and documentation, and manage approved payments through ACH, wire transfers, and foreign currency payment systems.
- Support W-8/W-9 maintenance, year-end 1099 preparation, positive pay and ACH controls, and accounts payable aging reconciliation.
- Review executive expenses as required and provide monthly payment reports to the CFO.
- Support payroll activities by reviewing W-2 and W-3 information, recording payroll transactions and allocations, and completing quarterly Form 941 reconciliations.
- Maintain the general ledger through monthly transaction reviews, reconciliations, and necessary reclassifications.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including grant accounting reviews, deferred revenue schedules, restricted and unrestricted net asset tracking, and account reconciliations.
- Review international subsidiary accounting information to support accurate monthly reporting and consolidated financial statements.
- Prepare monthly support schedules and financial reports, including consolidated year-end statements, for review by the CFO and Finance Manager.
- Perform monthly bank and purchase card reconciliations and close fiscal periods in the accounting system.
- Support international and Employer of Record transaction uploads, functional expense allocations, and multi-currency accounting activities.
- Manage currency exchange and valuation matters across accounting records, financial statements, and supporting schedules.
- Review Form 990 and state tax returns for accuracy, file applicable state returns, and support annual audit activities.
- Enter annual operating, program, and international subsidiary budgets into the accounting system.
- Participate in finance, departmental, and administrative meetings and provide financial information and analysis as needed.
Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online or comparable accounting software.
- Hands-on experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with grant-funded organizations, grant accounting, and revenue recognition for restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to review work thoroughly and maintain accurate financial records.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams, time zones, and cultures.
- Ability to work independently with limited direction, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and consistently meet deadlines in a remote environment.
- Flexible, collaborative, and team-oriented approach suited to working within a diverse global workforce.
- Experience with global or multi-entity finance operations and consolidated financial reporting is preferred.
- Experience with platforms such as Bill.com, Dext, Xero, or foreign exchange systems such as CBForex is a plus.
- Experience with Form 990 preparation and review is preferred.
- Experience working with external auditors is an advantage.
- Experience preparing consolidated financial reporting across international entities is preferred.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
