This is a fully remote opportunity for an experienced accountant supporting complex commercial and federal government projects.
You will play a key role in project accounting, customer billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, and financial close activities.
The position offers meaningful autonomy while working closely with the Controller and cross-functional finance, HR, payroll, and contracts teams.
You will help ensure project transactions, invoices, payments, and financial records are accurate, timely, and compliant.
The role combines day-to-day accounting execution with opportunities to improve processes and automate manual financial workflows.
You will also contribute to budgeting, forecasting, audits, tax compliance, and financial reporting activities.
This position is well suited to a detail-oriented accounting professional who is comfortable working across multiple projects, deadlines, and regulatory requirements.

Administer and maintain commercial and federal government contracts within Unanet GovCon ERP.
Prepare and submit accurate monthly project invoices to commercial and government customers in accordance with contract requirements and deadlines.
Post customer payments daily and maintain accurate records of invoices, payments, and receivables.
Monitor outstanding receivables, support collection follow-up, and reconcile billed amounts with contract funding and approved work.
Review project subcontractor invoices, validating them against contracts, purchase orders, and approved funding before payment.
Coordinate with internal teams to investigate and resolve billing, payment, and invoice discrepancies.
Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including analysis of account balances and variances.
Assist with year-end audit schedules and serve as a point of contact during internal and external audits.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis as needed.
Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal controls, accounting policies, and applicable federal contracting requirements.
Support state and local tax filings and compliance activities in coordination with external tax advisors.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including automation of manual accounting and finance processes.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience across project accounting and functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, depreciation, intangible assets, lease accounting, prepaid expenses, cash, credit cards, and expense reporting.
Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.
Experience with project-based accounting in a multi-company environment.
Experience with ERP and accounting platforms such as QBO Online, Deltek Costpoint, or Unanet.
Knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA regulations and compliance requirements.
Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and critical-thinking abilities.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when handling financial transactions and records.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high degree of autonomy.
Comfortable collaborating across accounting, contracts, HR, payroll, and operational teams.
Familiarity with AI tools such as ClaudeAI and other AI-assisted solutions for improving and automating accounting processes is preferred.
Experience with financial system conversions, implementations, process automation, or AI applications in finance is a plus.
