The role covers a broad range of critical mechanical systems, including cooling, air handling, and high-density liquid cooling technologies.
You will also contribute to project planning, technical documentation, quality assurance, and client reporting.
With a primarily Canadian scope and travel to project sites, the position offers opportunities to grow within a developing data center commissioning practice.
As Sr. Mechanical Commissioning Manager, you will lead technical commissioning delivery while coordinating stakeholders, validating system performance, and ensuring projects progress effectively from design through operational readiness.
- Plan, develop, and execute full lifecycle commissioning activities across L0-L6 for small, medium, and large-scale data center projects.
- Lead the development, review, and approval of mechanical commissioning test scripts and procedures across L1-L5.
- Apply ASHRAE commissioning requirements and guidelines throughout project delivery.
- Review design drawings, specifications, and submittals and validate key mechanical deliverables.
- Develop and validate Sequences of Operation (SOO) and Test and Balance (TAB) plans.
- Perform hands-on commissioning of critical mechanical equipment, including chillers, cooling towers, CDUs, CRAHs, CRACs, RTUs, AHUs, and high-density liquid cooling systems.
- Conduct pre-functional inspections, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing.
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment issues, document findings, and coordinate corrective actions with contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary commissioning point of contact for mechanical infrastructure, controls, and monitoring systems throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Methods-of-Procedures (MOPs).
- Compile project documentation into site-specific Systems Manuals.
- Support proposal development, team composition planning, and project budget management.
- Prepare detailed client commissioning reports using QA/QC platforms such as BIM360, CxAlloy, and Facility Grid.
- Conduct network diagnostic testing, heat load testing, scenario testing, and integrated systems validation to confirm facility performance and readiness.
Requirements
~1 min readThe ideal candidate brings substantial mission-critical commissioning experience, strong mechanical systems knowledge, and the ability to coordinate complex projects and stakeholders across multiple locations.
- Minimum 5 years of documented data center and/or mission-critical commissioning experience.
- Experience with greenfield data center projects, ideally involving facilities of 25MW or greater.
- Demonstrated experience with third-party commissioning of controls and automation systems.
- Strong knowledge of chillers, including air- and water-cooled systems, cooling towers, CDUs, CRAHs, CRACs, RTUs, and AHUs.
- Experience with high-density liquid cooling systems is preferred.
- Strong project management and coordination capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent commissioning activities.
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, vendors, clients, and technical teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Willingness and ability to travel overnight up to 30% to client sites across Canada, typically for periods not exceeding two weeks.
- An accredited engineering or technology degree is preferred, although equivalent industry experience is acceptable.
- A recognized Commissioning Professional certification is an advantage.
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng/PE) is preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
