Staff Engineer - Releases

As a Staff Engineer, you will help shape a foundational release control platform used by leading engineering teams to ship software safely and efficiently. You’ll own technical direction across release architecture, data models, integrations, governance, and progressive delivery capabilities. The role combines hands-on engineering with architectural leadership and cross-team influence. You’ll solve complex problems involving distributed systems, reliability, security, scalability, and developer experience. Your work will help teams gain a trusted, auditable view of what was released, where it was deployed, and whether governance requirements were met. You’ll also help evolve the platform toward advanced deployment orchestration, including canary releases, staged rollouts, automated promotion, and rollback. This is a remote-first technical leadership role with significant autonomy and opportunities to influence engineering practices across the organization.

• Proven experience building and operating production systems at scale, ideally with Go, Ruby on Rails, or comparable technologies.
• Strong experience designing event-driven or audit-log systems, including immutable records, event sourcing, or append-only data models.
• Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure and complex containerized applications, with AWS experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, including performance and replication considerations.
• Experience solving distributed systems, observability, infrastructure reliability, and scalability challenges.
• Hands-on experience building or operating deployment and release-orchestration platforms that safely move changes from merge to production and model deployment state.
• Familiarity with CD and deployment platforms such as Argo CD, Argo Rollouts, Spinnaker, Flux, or similar technologies.
• Experience with workflow orchestration engines such as Temporal or comparable systems for coordinating complex, multi-step deployments.
• Deep understanding of progressive delivery practices, including canary deployments and analysis, blue/green releases, staged and phased rollouts, feature flags, health-based promotion, and automated rollback.
• Experience designing unified, self-service deployment workflows used across multiple teams or business units while maintaining appropriate guardrails and governance.
• Experience with DORA metrics, release governance, compliance, or audit requirements in large-scale or regulated engineering environments.
• Experience integrating source control and CI/CD platforms such as GitHub, GitLab, or comparable systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly within remote-first environments.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative and pragmatic approach, balancing technical quality with business context.
• Comfortable mentoring engineers and leading technical discussions across teams.
• Additional experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, infrastructure-as-code, Kafka, Flink, SRE practices, systems programming, Linux/Unix internals, or cloud security is valuable.
