This is a leadership role overseeing survey operations for oil and gas projects across the DJ Basin, from planning and field execution through data processing and final deliverables. You’ll coordinate survey crews, office technicians, equipment, schedules, and review capacity across multiple concurrent projects. The role combines technical survey knowledge with project planning, resource management, quality assurance, and people leadership. You’ll work closely with project managers and technical teams to translate project requirements into practical survey plans and dependable commitments. You’ll also help resolve delivery challenges, improve workflows, and develop the capabilities of field and office teams. The position is fully remote, with work generally aligned to Mountain Time and occasional travel for collaboration, training, or project support.

Lead the survey phase of assigned DJ Basin oil and gas projects, developing work plans, defining deliverables, estimating effort, and establishing milestones aligned with broader project commitments.
Partner with project managers to assess scope changes, field conditions, access constraints, drilling or construction schedules, and other factors that may affect survey execution.
Coordinate field crews, survey technicians, equipment, processing, CAD drafting, and review resources across multiple concurrent assignments.
Manage survey delivery from research and field preparation through data collection, processing, drafting, quality assurance, and final release.
Oversee deliverables such as well location certificates, right-of-way exhibits, ALTA/NSPS surveys, boundary and topographic surveys, construction staking, as-builts, and other survey documentation.
Incorporate QA/QC and designated PLS/RPLS review into project schedules, ensuring comments are addressed and survey information is complete and fit for its intended use.
Coordinate aerial mapping, LiDAR, and other supporting survey inputs when included in project scope.
Monitor hours, utilization, remaining effort, progress, and rework against plans, providing project managers with accurate forecasts and early notice of risks.
Take ownership of delivery issues by coordinating recovery plans, resolving bottlenecks, addressing missing or conflicting information, and following corrective actions through completion.
Identify recurring delays and inefficiencies and implement practical improvements to strengthen quality, productivity, and delivery reliability.
Lead, coach, and develop field and office personnel, including supervisors and coordinators, through clear expectations, regular feedback, training, and career development.
Support staffing, hiring, onboarding, capacity planning, performance management, and equipment or workflow improvement initiatives in partnership with leadership and HR.
When appropriately licensed and assigned, perform survey work under responsible charge and sign and seal applicable deliverables.

Requirements

Substantial progressive experience in land surveying, with a strong understanding of both field and office survey operations.
At least 5 years of experience in project, client, and staff management, including direct responsibility for people leadership and survey delivery.
Demonstrated experience providing surveying services for oil and gas projects, particularly well sites, pipelines, facilities, or related energy infrastructure.
Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments, including resource planning, effort estimation, progress tracking, scheduling, and delivery problem resolution.
Strong knowledge of survey fundamentals, including survey control, coordinate systems, datums, units, calculations, boundary surveying, and topographic surveying.
Working knowledge of GNSS/RTK, total stations, survey data processing, and CAD workflows sufficient to plan work, evaluate deliverables, and identify technical issues requiring PLS/RPLS direction.
Strong resource-management and organizational skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities, staff capabilities, equipment, deadlines, quality, safety, and cost.
Demonstrated people-leadership skills, including delegation, coaching, performance management, team development, and accountability.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, particularly in environments involving changing schedules, rural field conditions, tight deadlines, and evolving project requirements.
Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, technical teams, field personnel, clients, and leadership.
Experience using project, timekeeping, and resource information to assess progress, utilization, remaining work, and rework.
Advanced experience with Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS platforms, or survey databases is preferred.
Familiarity with photogrammetry, aerial or terrestrial LiDAR, and integration of remote-sensing data into survey workflows is preferred.
Familiarity with Colorado upstream development and survey requirements supporting ECMC and local permitting is advantageous.
An active Colorado Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is preferred but not required.
A degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and able to perform the role within continental U.S. time zones.
