About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead commercial concrete construction operations in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Superintendent will serve as a key link between project team members and will take an active role in directing crews, coordinating manpower and materials, managing field activities, maintaining production, and ensuring work meets project specifications and quality standards. The position reports to the General Superintendent, with safety responsibilities overseen by the Safety Manager.

Responsibilities

  • →Direct and assist crews with the installation of commercial concrete systems, including foundations, walls, slabs, and related work.
  • →Manage daily jobsite activities within the company's scope of work.
  • →Schedule and coordinate PCC employees and contract labor to meet project requirements and budget expectations.
  • →Work closely with the Project Manager on manpower, materials, scheduling, production, and project planning.
  • →Coordinate with General Contractors and Construction Managers, including attending project meetings and pre-planning upcoming work.
  • →Review plans, specifications, and drawings to establish layouts, dimensions, materials, and construction methods.
  • →Perform layout and control using levels, transits, and total stations.
  • →Monitor manpower and production rates and take corrective action when performance does not meet established expectations.
  • →Complete daily reports documenting production, labor activities, weather, delays, accidents, and other jobsite conditions.
  • →Prepare extra-work tickets for changes in scope and ensure appropriate documentation and approvals are obtained.
  • →Coordinate material orders and work with the Project Manager to maintain required jobsite materials and resources.
  • →Assist with billing assessments to ensure accurate project billings.
  • →Monitor company and subcontractor work for compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
  • →Oversee quality control and promptly address work that does not meet company standards.
  • →Assist Foremen with field layout, coordination issues, and subcontractor challenges.
  • →Mentor and develop field employees to improve skills and prepare them for advancement.
  • →Maintain a professional and organized jobsite and represent the company positively with clients, subcontractors, and project partners.
  • →Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably with significant commercial cast-in-place concrete experience.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction materials, methods, tools, and field installation practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct concrete construction involving foundations, walls, slabs, and related systems.
  • Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
  • Understanding of project administration, cost controls, scheduling, quality assurance, and safety.
  • Strong planning, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead crews, coordinate subcontractors, establish priorities, and maintain production.
