LA28 is the independent, non-profit, privately funded organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The 2028 Games mark the return of the Summer Games to the U.S. for the first time in 32 years and Los Angeles’ third time hosting an Olympic Games and first time welcoming the Paralympic Games. This presents the unique and exciting opportunity to celebrate our legacy with the Games and push the Olympic and Paralympic Movements forward, writing a new chapter of Games history in Los Angeles.

The LA28 Sustainability team is responsible for working across the organization to deliver a more environmentally sustainable Games in 2028. Reporting to the Vice President of Sustainability, the Senior Manager, Sustainability will oversee the implementation of LA28’s sustainability goals, helping to bridge the gap between sustainability strategy and organizations execution. This role will be responsible for measuring success against key sustainability goals, developing and managing a roadmap for the sustainability team, and leading LA28’s ISO 20121 certification processThis role will also support development and implementation of action plans across a range of sustainability priorities, including energy, water, waste, and biodiversityThis is position requires a unique blend of strategic thinking, project management mastery, and experience implementing sustainability initiatives. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and manage sustainability roadmap to translate goals to action 
  • Implement an ISO 20121 aligned sustainability management system 
  • Manage internal and third-party audits for ISO 20121 certification 
  • Identify biodiversity risks and support implementation of biodiversity protections at LA28 venues 
  • Develop and implement water conservation strategies for LA28 operations 
  • Develop detailed implementation plans for a range of sustainability topics/issues 
  • Conduct ad hoc research/analysis on a range of sustainability topics 
  • Lead Project management across sustainability initiatives 

Requirements

Background and Requirements 

  •  7+ years of professional experience in sustainability or ESG roles  
  • Proven track record in developing and managing large-scale programs or initiatives from strategy through execution and reporting 
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and coordinate across stakeholders 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level presentations   

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions 

  • Available to work onsite in our Downtown Los Angeles-based office.  
  • The majority ofwork will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.   
  • The LA28 office is anopen floorplanworking environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in anopen cubicleenvironment.   
  • Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.
  • Perform other duties asrequired; the role will evolve over time and may include operational responsibilities during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, e.g., Sustainability, Environmental Science, Communications, Public Policy, Business, or related discipline. (Master’s degree preferred)  

The annual base salary range for this position is $105,000.00 - $140,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
