We are unique compared to other districts because of the wide variety of exciting and innovative educational options from which families and staff members can choose. All of Lansing School District’s team members are dedicated to our mission to provide an excellent education to all students in a safe and nurturing environment.

In Pursuit of this mission, we are looking to hire an ESL Teacher. To further this mission, the district is hiring an ESL Teacher to provide a holistic and supportive classroom experience for adult learners. Focused on literacy, instruction should include issues relevant to English within the community and workplace. The teacher will work to establish a safe and nurturing learning environment for students where background knowledge, language and culture is valued, and time is given to orient adult learners to a new culture, school, and community.
  • Possess valid Michigan Teaching Certificate preferably with endorsement in Language Arts (BX) or English (BA). Applicants with the English as a Second Language (NS) endorsement are preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated interest/experience in working with adult students.
  • Technology proficiency
  • Ability to foster an effective learning environment for multiple age and skill levels.
  • Ability to implement multiple teaching methods, styles, and materials.
  • To work cooperatively with other teaching and support staff
  • Provide high quality instruction that supports and aligns to the State of Michigan and the district's educational vision and mission.
  • Responsible for teaching English as a Second Language courses using instructional methods geared toward the adult learner in a classroom setting. An ideal candidate would be flexible and able to switch gears to teach toward different skill levels, subject matter, and student ability. 
  • Administer diagnostic tests (CASAS - Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) and implement learning strategies based on test results to improve students reading, writing, grammar, and oral proficiency skills
  • Facilitate an environment that fosters the learning of all students.
  • Utilize educational technology to support student’s instruction and learning.
  • Develop and deliver daily lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies to ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets.
  • Analysis of real-time data pertaining to student learning
  • Responsible for tracking student progress and communicating to students and administration.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, peers, and community.
  • Follow policies and procedures outlined by the Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
