The Lethbridge Police Service is currently accepting applications for a full-time permanent Watch -Senior Team Lead.

 

Reporting to The Watch Manager, The Watch Senior Team Lead is a unique opportunity for an individual with a passion and commitment for serving other people and playing a role in ensuring our community is a welcoming and safe place for everyone.

 

The Watch Senior Team Lead acts as additional eyes and ears of social and community service agencies and to our emergency service providers to connect people with public and private social support agencies and organizations.  Provide highly visible deterrence to negative behaviours, and increase the overall perception of downtown safety for all people.

 

The Watch Senior Team Lead provides on‑street leadership and coordination to a team of volunteers and Watch Team Leads, ensuring a consistent, highly visible presence in the downtown area. This role is responsible for planning and assigning daily patrols, managing shift schedules and resources, and providing clear direction, supervision, and support to team members in the field.

 

The Senior Team Lead works collaboratively with community partners, social agencies, and internal stakeholders to support public safety and outreach initiatives, while delivering compassionate assistance to individuals accessing social supports. They are also responsible for coordinating responses to calls for service, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, maintaining operational standards, and fostering strong, respectful relationships within the community.

 

Wage:                   $28.22 per hour (2026 Rate)


Hours:                   Full‑time; average of 42 hours per week.


Schedule:            We operate 7 days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Full‑time staff work 12‑hour shifts on a rotating 4‑days‑on / 4‑days‑off cycle, which includes days, evenings, and weekends.


This permanent full-time position with the City of Lethbridge/Lethbridge Police Service includes a comprehensive flexible benefits package and defined benefit pension plan (LAPP).


The Watch Senior Team Leader will:

  • Provide on street coordination of Team Leads and Volunteers
  • Prepare the daily duty roster and assigned patrol area and assign daily break times
  • Assign the use of The Watch Truck for the day.
  • Ensure all required reports from the shift are complete and submitted on time
  • Assist with processing and recording daily, weekly and monthly reports
  • Provide assistance to any person wishing to access any social supports they require. Coordinate Safe Walk requests
  • Utilize radio communications and The Watch Walk phone to record activities and events with the Public Safety Communications Centre, and to summon appropriate emergency service when required.
  • Engage with all people in the community and work to build lasting relationships, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support other social agencies and public outreach organizations in their work when required
  • Ensure all Team Leads and Volunteers are wearing their issued uniform according to policy.
  • Ensure PPE is available to all Team Leads and Volunteers.
  • Ensure that The Watch Centre and Truck are sanitized every two to three days.
  • Ensure Nasal Narcan is refilled in The Watch Centre.
  • Assist with delivery of Volunteer and Team Lead Training
  • Manage performance feedback requirements with the other Watch members
  • Act in the capacity of The Watch Manager in the absence of The Manager
  • Other duties required and assigned by The Watch Manager


The successful candidate will:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a valid AB Class 5 Driver’s License (Non-GDL License Required)
  • Have demonstrated strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Be able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Superior customer service skills and de-escalation techniques.
  • Be empathetic, friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing with a positive attitude
  • Be a good team player who contributes positively to their team
  • Be physically fit and able to walk many kilometers a day
  • Have strong communication skills both oral and written, as well as great interpersonal skills
  • Have an awareness and understanding of Indigenous culture and history
  • Have an awareness of diverse demographics and cultures within the City of Lethbridge
  • Comfortable giving directions and supervising team leads and volunteers.
  • Ability to take charge and give instructions when responding to Watch calls for service (overdoses, street behaviour calls or police assist calls).
  • Ability to follow directions given by Watch Manager
  • **Current work experience as a full-time Watch Team Lead is required for this internal opportunity


The following are considered assets:

  • Familiarity in dealing with matters related to mental health and addictions
  • Previous experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring others
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certification


The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance, which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire), criminal and police records check, reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.

 

STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS

•    External applicants/non LPS employees will be required to complete a Personal Disclosure Form (PDF) and a Security Clearance Declaration.
•    Internal LPS employees will be required to complete a Personal Disclosure Form (PDF) if they have not previously completed a Polygraph Examination with LPS and are applying to a position requiring a higher level of access than their current role.
3.    Police Fingerprinting Check - Completion of a satisfactory police fingerprinting check.
•    Applicable to external applicants/non LPS employees.
4.    Polygraph Examination Procedure - Successful applicants will be required to complete a Polygraph Examination Procedure.
•    Applicable to external applicants/non LPS employees.
•    Applicable to internal LPS employees who have not previously completed a Polygraph Examination with LPS and who are applying to a position requiring a higher level of access than their current role.
5.    Security Clearance Check - A Security Clearance Check will be conducted.
•    Applicable to external applicants/non LPS employees.
6.    Reference Verification - A minimum of three professional references will be conducted
•    Applicable to external applicants/non LPS employees.
7.    Selection and Offer - Successful candidate(s) will be selected and offered the position.
8.    Fair and Uniform Process - All components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated, and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner.
