Empowering people with disability to live life the way they choose is at the heart of how Life Without Barriers has operated for over 25 years. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and continue this mission. Support people with disability to have the choice, control, and independence to live their best life. If you’re passionate about inclusivity, respect, and making a meaningful difference, this is the career move for you.

Life Without Barriers is a leading social purpose organisation of 8,000 employees working in more than 500 communities across Australia. We support children, young people and families, people with disability, older people and people with mental illness. We work with people who are homeless and refugees and asylum seekers. Join a community of people dedicated to breaking down barriers.

We want to employ people who reflect the diversity of our clients to ensure we can support each client's individual needs and wants. We encourage people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background and people with disability to apply.

About the Role

~2 min read

Joining our team in Kensington on a permanent part time basis, you will support various people with disability who access our respite services. We are looking for candidates who will quickly build positive relationships and are enthusiastic about providing active support and getting involved in the varying interests of the people accessing the respite service – this may range from getting involved in arts and crats, sports, shopping or accessing the community.

No two days will be the same with most people being supported staying in the respite for 2 nights at a time and so, the successful candidate will have experience across a range of disability support including manual handling, personal care, modified meal management and medication administration.

The successful candidate must be able to commit to the following set roster of 62 hours per fortnight:

  • Week 1: Sat & Sun 9am – 5pm
  • Week 2: Tues & Wed 11pm – 9am, Fri 3pm – 9am, Sat & Sun 5pm – 9am (sleepover)

At Life Without Barriers we consider gender a genuine occupational qualification for this position under Section 27 (2), (c), (e) and (g) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, and so we ask that only Female applicants apply.
