Job Summary:   The RICA Educational Advocate Peer Mentor serves as a near-peer support and engagement team member who assists youth and young adults participating in RICA Educational Advocacy and scholarship-related programming. Through structured mentorship, relationship-building, and guided engagement activities, Peer Mentors provide encouragement, support, and positive role modeling to promote academic success, personal development, post-secondary navigation, and career exploration. Drawing from their own lived educational experiences, Peer Mentors help participants build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and increase connection to available resources and opportunities. Under the direction of program staff, Peer Mentors support outreach activities, group sessions, student engagement initiatives, and program participation efforts while contributing to a supportive and strengths-based environment for youth. This role promotes leadership development, professionalism, communication skills, and service-oriented learning while advancing the overall mission of youth success and resilience. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience:    Previous or current successful navigation of post-secondary education systems with a desire to lead and support peers required.   Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or alternative schedules to support programming is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:   Strong interpersonal communication, active listening, and a high level of empathy. Ability to facilitate meetings in various settings (campus, community sites, or virtual platforms). Read, write legibly, and speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.
