The Princeton University Art Museum welcomes applications for the position of Research Assistant. The position will report to the Curator of Provenance to assist with in-depth research regarding the onboarding of a large bequest of objects primarily from the Ancient Americas. This position is temporary.
With a collecting history that extends back to 1755, the Princeton University Art Museum is one of the leading university art museums in the country, featuring collections that have grown to include more than 117,000 works of art ranging from ancient to contemporary art and spanning the globe. The bold and welcoming new Princeton University Art Museum is open daily at the heart of Princeton’s campus. Admission is free to all. The Museum also operates Art@Bainbridge, a gallery project at 158 Nassau Street; two Museum Stores; and Mosaic restaurant.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Assist with researching and composing provenance statements for the 2,000+ objects and facilitating their publication on the Museum’s website;
- →Support the Curator of Provenance with public posting of the acquisition of ancient and archeological material as required by relevant professional organization(s);
- →Help align the acquisition with overall cultural heritage and ethical stewardship guidelines and priorities within the Museum;
- →Help field research requests relating to the relevant objects.
Requirements
~2 min read- M.A. in Art History or Museum Studies.
- Prior employment or internship experience with provenance research in a museum or art market context.
- Interest in cultural patrimony and heritage issues.
- Some familiarity with the history of art and archeology in the field of the Ancient Americas.
- Reading knowledge of Spanish is a plus
