JOB TITLE: CONTRACT INSTRUCTOR - HOMESCHOOL ENRICHMENT MODULES
Reports To: EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Compensation: CONTRACTED HOURLY OR PER-SESSION RATE BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND FIELD
SUMMARY
Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is seeking skilled, passionate community members interested in teaching short-term enrichment classes for local homeschool students, with support from MBCPR Staff. Instructors will lead 4-week modules in areas such as Art, P.E., Creative Writing, Pottery, Introductory Sports, Sewing, Gardening, Music, Robotics, and more. Classes are designed to be hands-on, accessible to mixed ages (6-14), and focused on building skills and confidence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Plan and teach a 4-week class series in your area of expertise.
- Provide simple, achievable learning goals appropriate for ages 6-14.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.
- Communicate needs (materials, equipment, space set-up) to the Educational Program Coordinator.
- Follow all MBCPR policies and safety procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUITES AND REPONSIBILITES include the following:
- Acts as an intermediary facilitating communication among parents, school administration, and program personnel.
- Recruits, trains, and oversees employees; offers consistent feedback, mentoring, coaching, and training; fosters teamwork and collaboration; conducts performance evaluations; ensures compliance with all relevant policies and procedures; conducts staff trainings; and informs the supervisor of any issues related to staffing, workload, or performance.
- Schedules staff at both recreation centers based off program numbers.
- Coordinates budget management and program resources and assesses the program's overall impact.
- Implements community education and outreach efforts aimed at increasing public knowledge of the program and its available benefits; identifies approaches and locations for sharing information about programs and activities.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
Completes daily duties with efficiency and minimal supervision. Provides reports to the team weekly or as required.
COMMUNICATION – VERBAL AND WRITTEN
A clear communicator who shares information with supervisor, team-members, and others within the organization to contribute to the effective operation of the whole organization. Must demonstrate the ability to work under pressure in a pleasant and courteous manner, handle differences of opinion in a businesslike fashion, follow instructions conscientiously, and function as a team member, helping the group effort. Must communicate expectations and procedures clearly to team members to maintain smooth operations.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, REQUIREMENTS, VISUAL ACUITY, AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work will occur indoors and out in a variety of conditions and temperature ranges. Tasks require standing for long periods of time, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects that weigh up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Work is high paced at times, must be able to perform in a busy environment. Physical demands listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform essential job functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
- Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Standing for sustained periods of time.
- Substantial repetitive movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).
- The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
