We have an exciting opportunity for a X-Ray Computed Tomography (XCT) Scientist to join the team with Mb Solutions, a teammate company!
The X-Ray Computed Tomography (XCT) Scientist will:
- Operate XCT instrumentation, including scan setup, calibration, optimization, and routine maintenance.
- Develop and execute scanning protocols tailored to diverse material types, including planetary materials, analogs, and engineered specimens.
- Perform data reconstruction, processing, segmentation, and quantitative analysis of XCT datasets.
- Utilize specialized XCT software (e.g., Avizo, Dragonfly, ORS, Volume Graphics) for visualization and measurement workflows.
- Document scan parameters, data quality metrics, and analysis methods in accordance with project and curation requirements.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to interpret data and generate scientific deliverables.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with XCT instrumentation and software.
- Maintain data organization, metadata, and archive-ready datasets in compliance with laboratory standards.
- Contribute to the development of new XCT methodologies, automation, or analysis pipelines.
Requisition Qualifications:

- A BS degree and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience are typically required.
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Geology, Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on experience operating XCT systems in a laboratory or research setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in 3D data reconstruction and analysis.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently in a laboratory environment.
- Experience with volumetric imaging software and familiarity with common file formats (e.g., TIFF stacks, RAW volumes).
Requisition Preferences:
- Master's degree or higher in a relevant scientific or technical field.
- Experience working with geological or planetary materials.
- Familiarity with radiation safety protocols and XCT hardware components.
- Programming or scripting skills (Python, MATLAB, etc.) for automation or analysis workflows.
- Experience in experimental, scientific and/or or research laboratory environments
- Additional Information:
- Position may require standing for extended periods and handling delicate scientific samples.
- Occasional off‑nominal hours may be required to support long-duration scans.
