Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform skilled work in the operation of heavy equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of County roadways, bridges and right-of-ways. �The work usually includes servicing and making minor field repair to equipment. The County Road Equipment Operator III is distinguished from the County Road Equipment Operator I and II class by the responsibility for operating heavy construction equipment requiring considerable manipulative skill and the greater consequences of error in the form of damage to more expensive equipment. � The essential functions are: operates a motor grader, rubber tire excavator, bucket loader, bull dozer, conveyor loader, chip spreader, asphalt distributor, and shoulder machine; services and performs basic preventive maintenance on assigned heavy equipment; maintains daily records, completes weekly reports of materials, equipment and fuel; and performs other duties in the absence of the County Road Maintenance Supervisor or the County Road Equipment Operator II. � The employee reports to the District Maintenance Superintendent who frequently inspects the work and gives assignments in detail for each job.\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
Must have at least six months of experience as an equipment operator of a 2 ton and tandem dump truck or have a combination of experience with operating a 2 ton truck and other heavy equipment as listed in the requirements of work for roadway construction and maintenance or related work. �Must be able at entry to operate a motor grader, bucket or front end loader, and rubber tire excavator and perform maintenance and pre-trip inspections on this heavy equipment.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:��Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the\r\nrequisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.\r\n�\r\n
Special Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B) and an insurable driving record to drive and operate heavy equipment used for construction, maintenance and repair of Montgomery County roadways. �If promoted, must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within six months of promotion.\r\n\r\n\r\n
