Main Purpose of Job

We are seeking\r\npassionate individuals for the role of�Alcohol and Drug Counselor - Supervised.� So, join our team and make\r\na meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!�\r\n�\r\n\r\nThis is a full performance level of work, certified by the\r\nMaryland Board of Professional Counselors\r\nand Therapists at the Associate degree level. The CSC provides a\r\nfull range of counseling for\r\nsubstance use clients, with the least complex problems as\r\ndefined by standard treatment criteria,\r\nunder general supervision from a clinical supervisor, approved\r\nby the Maryland Board of\r\nProfessional Counselors and Therapists. Performs other related\r\nduties. In accordance with Health\r\nOccupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07.� Candidates must be certified by\r\nthe Board, of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified\r\nSupervised Counselor-Alcohol\r\nand Drug.\r\n \r\n

POSITION DUTIES

This position is\r\nresponsible for the Backbone Mountain Youth Center. \r\nSome key responsibilities of this position may\r\ninclude, but not be limited, to the following:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Provide\r\n individual, family, and group substance use counseling services to youth within\r\n a secure residential juvenile services setting.�\r\n Complete\r\n substance use screenings, assessments, treatment planning, progress notes, and\r\n discharge documentation in accordance with DJS and COMAR standards.�\r\n Facilitate\r\n evidence-based interventions focused on relapse prevention, coping skills,\r\n emotional regulation, and recovery support.�\r\n Respond\r\n to behavioral health crises and participate in an on-call rotation to provide\r\n emergency clinical support and intervention services.�\r\n Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams,\r\n education staff, medical providers, direct care staff, families, and community\r\n providers to support youth rehabilitation and continuity of care.\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined\r\nby the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the\r\nrequirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug. �\r\n�\r\n\r\nExperience: Determined by the\r\nMaryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the\r\nrequirements for Certified Supervised Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position may\r\npossess any of the following qualifications:\r\n�\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Please include at\r\n least two desirables below.\r\n Experience providing\r\n substance use counseling services to adolescents or justice-involved youth.�\r\n Experience\r\n facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups in a residential or secure\r\n treatment setting.�\r\n Knowledge of\r\n evidence-based practices related to substance use treatment, motivational\r\n interviewing, and trauma-informed care.\r\n Bilingual skills or\r\n experience working with culturally diverse populations.\r\n\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates appointed to positions in this classification must be eligible for and obtain certification by the Board of Professional Counselors as a Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug prior to permanent appointment. \r\n2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. \r\n2. Employees in this classification perform the work in a Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or a Maryland State certified addictions program. \r\n
