Main Purpose of Job

\r\n\r\nThe main purpose of this\r\nposition is to provide high quality, developmentally\r\nappropriate, comprehensive pediatric care to adolescent youth who are\r\nresiding at DJS facilities. This position provides youth with\r\npreventative, acute, chronic, and specialty health care services to\r\nprotect, promote, and advance their overall health and prepare them for\r\nsuccess upon return to the community.\r\n�\r\nJob Duties:\r\n�\r\nProvision of on-site\r\nhealthcare: Complete history & physical examinations, provide acute\r\n& chronic healthcare, & manage youth with medical conditions such as\r\ndiabetes, seizure disorder, sickle cell, heart disease, opioid use\r\ndisorder, orthopedic injuries, infectious diseases, physical disabilities,\r\netc. Admit youth to the infirmary and refer to the ER and specialty care\r\nas needed. Write orders and document in the medical chart.\r\n�\r\nReview Medical Records: Review\r\nand sign-off on immunization records, past medical records, referral\r\nreports, results of laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, and other studies\r\n(e.g., EEGs, EKGs), admission nursing assessments, 30 day reviews,\r\nand discharge summaries. Assist with writing discharge summaries as\r\nneeded. Write orders, update the problem list, and provide care based on\r\nreview of medical records.\r\n�\r\nMeetings, consultations, and\r\ndiscussion with other healthcare providers: Attend weekly Special Needs\r\nmeetings as able, discuss cases with specialists and ER as\r\nneeded, collaborate with the DJS interdisciplinary team including nursing\r\nand behavioral health staff, psychiatric providers, dentist, optometrist,\r\ndietitian, physical therapist, residential & case management staff,\r\npharmacist, and other physicians and nurse practitioners.\r\n�\r\nCommunication with parents or\r\nguardian: As needed, call parents/guardians to obtain or share medical\r\ninformation about youth.\r\n�\r\nOn-call services: Be available\r\nby cell phone and email to nursing staff in case needed to clarify orders.\r\nBased on availability, assist in provision of 24/7, on-call medical services\r\nby telephone for youth at DJS facilities.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� A Doctorate a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university. \r\nExperience: Required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board. \r\nNote: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants� for this classification must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization. \r\n2. Applicants for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application. \r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n

BENEFITS

\r\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n
