Dependent upon where the Coach Vacancies are for each athletic season:\r\n\r\n\r\nMSD, Frederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705\r\n\r\n\r\nor\r\n\r\n\r\nMSD, Columbia Campus, 8169\r\nOld Montgomery Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Main Purpose of Job
Afterschool sports coaches work with students with deaf and hard of hearing students by\r\ncoaching, mentoring, and developing student-athletes in both the fundamentals and advanced\r\nskills of their respective sport, while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and\r\nacademic success. The coach is responsible for planning and conducting practices, supervising\r\nstudent-athletes during athletic activities, ensuring safety and compliance with school and\r\nleague regulations, and fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment that\r\nencourages personal growth and team achievement.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Coaches are responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program and other program related\r\nduties. These duties can range from drill instruction and execution to video study and analysis.\r\nCoaches are expected to demonstrate effective teaching skills relative to sport-specific\r\ntechnique, as well as possess the interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective working\r\nrelationships with students, parents, other coaches, and administrators. Essential\r\nresponsibilities also include modeling appropriate behavior and following established protocol\r\nfor injuries. This position will report to the Athletic Director and/or Assistant Athletic Director.\r\n\r\n\r\nPhysical Requirements: Work requires physical stamina and mobility to demonstrate and\r\nparticipate in athletic drills and training activities. Ability to stand, run, crouch, throw, and move\r\nquickly across practice and game areas. Must be able to lift, move, and transport equipment or\r\nmaterials weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent walking, standing, bending, and stretching are\r\nrequired. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. Evening and weekend hours required for practices and competitions.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Knowledge of deaf and hard-of-hearing students and the ability to teach students\r\non different levels, with varying educational backgrounds. Strong communication skills are\r\nmandatory, therefore proficiency in American Sign Language is required.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Coaching experience and knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code,\r\nFamily Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation.\r\n
BENEFITS
\r\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n
