The Maryland School for the Deaf provides an inclusive,\r\nlanguage-rich environment for deaf and hard of hearing students from birth\r\nthrough age 21. Rooted in a bilingual education approach, we ensure full access\r\nto American Sign Language and English across comprehensive academic,\r\nextracurricular, and student life programs. In partnership with families and\r\ncommunities, we empower students to think critically and develop a sense of\r\nself and belonging.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis is an 11-month position.\r\n
LOCATION OF POSITION
The position will be\r\nbased primarily on the Frederick Campus; however, the School Psychologist will also\r\ncarry a caseload of students on the Columbia Campus and must be able to travel\r\nbetween both locations as needed.\r\n�\r\nMSD, Frederick Campus,\r\n101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705\r\n�\r\nMSD, Columbia Campus,\r\n8169 Old Montgomery Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043\r\n
Main Purpose of Job
The school psychologist supports students from early childhood through high school by applying expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. This position enhances teachers’ capacity to teach and students’ capacity to learn by partnering with families, teachers, school administrators, and other school professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments. The role also strengthens connections between home, school, and the broader community to promote student well‑being and positive educational outcomes.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
The school psychologist is an 11‑month position responsible for providing direct\r\ndiagnostic/assessment and counseling services to MSD students, participating in\r\nIndividualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, and offering professional\r\nconsultation and training to school staff and families. The role supports both\r\ncampuses and collaborates closely with educational teams to address student\r\nneeds, including providing behavioral support through the assessment of student\r\nbehavior, development of evidence‑based\r\ninterventions, and guidance to staff on implementing effective strategies. The\r\nschool psychologist supports several school teams and committees, including the\r\nAdmissions Review Team (ART), Threat Assessment Team, Research Review\r\nCommittee, and initiatives related to PBIS and MTSS, while maintaining ongoing\r\ncommunication with administrative staff and school personnel regarding student\r\nmental health needs and services. The position is supervised by the Supervisor\r\nof Mental Health and Behavioral Support Services and may also provide\r\nsupervision to school psychology and counseling interns or practicum students.�\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
�A Master’s Degree in School Psychology is required.\r\n\r\n\r\nSchool Psychologists must be credentialed by the state in which they work. The Maryland State\r\nDepartment of Education (MSDE) School Psychologist License is required (or the ability to obtain in a\r\nspecific time).\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience working with students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.\r\n\r\n\r\nFluency in ASL.\r\n\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
�Several years of experience in the field is preferred (but not required).\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
School Psychologists must be credentialed by the state in\r\nwhich they work. The Maryland State Department of�Education (MSDE) School Psychologist License is\r\nrequired (or the ability to obtain in a specific time).\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal background\r\ninvestigation at their own expense (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1,\r\nSections 5-560 – 5-568)\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates will need to provide\r\nthree letters of recommendation with their application.\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates will also need to submit several work\r\nsamples, including redacted assessment reports.\r\n
