Main Purpose of Job
To develop and implement a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language accessible environment as well as provide an enriched bicultural environment conducive to the development of the optimal social and emotional growth of Deaf students. To provide a language enriched environment through use of sign language and printed word to meet the varied needs of Deaf students.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Assess\r\nand teach Deaf students including the implementation of Maryland’s state\r\nstandards and the development of IEPs. Create and maintain a classroom\r\nconducive to learning.� Prepare and\r\nmaintain weekly solid lesson plans based on student assessments and data, and\r\nteach lessons using the best practices of bilingual pedagogy and differentiated\r\ninstruction.� Design and make materials\r\nto facilitate student learning.� Collect\r\ndata and follow individualized planning.\r\nDevelop IEPs and write quarterly progress reports; apply IEP\r\naccommodations and supplementary aids in teaching and assessments.� Maintain a grade book, portfolios, unit\r\nplans, daily attendance, and emergency classroom lesson plans. Utilize\r\neffective classroom management for optimal learning including managing student\r\nbehavior; model appropriate behavior and promote self-control.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's\r\ndegree required.\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates must be eligible to apply for or be\r\nwilling to obtain certification by the Maryland State Department of Education\r\nwithin a prescribed amount of time.\r\nFluency in American Sign Language and written English required.� Knowledge of the Deaf culture, Deaf\r\nEducation, students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students\r\non different levels and with varying educational and language acquisition\r\nbackgrounds is required.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Education or Special\r\nEducation of Deaf students, Maryland State Department of Education\r\nCertification\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal\r\nbackground investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law\r\nArticle 1, Sections 5-560-568)\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates will need to provide three letters of\r\nrecommendation with their application.\r\n

BENEFITS
\r\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n
