In partnership with families and communities, we empower students to\r\nthink critically and develop a sense of self and belonging.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Maryland School\r\nfor the Deaf (MSD) is seeking staff Interpreters to provide direct\r\ninterpreting services to students, families, employees, school resource\r\nofficer, and visitors in varying situations in American Sign Language (ASL)/English.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis is a 12-month, part-time\r\nposition, therefore the salary range will be prorated to $27,443.00 -\r\n$42,497.50.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job
The Staff Interpreter will provide interpreting services while working with, but not limited to, students, families, employees, visitors, school resource officer (SRO), members of the public, other state employees, state legislators, etc. in-person at both the MSD campus and off-site locations as well as virtually.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Facilitate communication by interpreting from Sign to\r\nVoice and/or from Voice to Sign in a variety of settings (IEPs, board meetings,\r\npersonnel and administrative matters, staff trainings, parent/teacher\r\nconferences, home visits, classroom, school events, social situations, etc.) by\r\nconveying the content and spirit of the speaker using the language most readily\r\nunderstood by the person(s) being served.\r\nPerform administrative tasks associated with interpreting related\r\nassignments.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
\r\nEducation: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Three years of experience providing formal interpretation and translation services between English and a second language. Formal interpretation services may include documented work as a volunteer interpreter for a nonprofit, human service or faith-based organization.\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute�courses from an accredited college or university, on a year-for-year basis, for up to two years of the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may substitute additional experience interpreting and translating between English and a second language for the required education.\r\n\r\n\r\n3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service�experience as a non-commissioned officer in interpreter/translator classification or interpreter/translator�specialty codes in the�foreign affairs field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of a post-secondary degree program in Interpreter\r\nPreparation/Training.�\r\n\r\n\r\n- Interpreting certification granted by a national\r\ncertifying board (RID or NAD).��\r\n\r\n\r\n- Working knowledge of the\r\nRegistry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.\r\n\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Must meet state licensure requirements to work as an Interpreter.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject\r\nto a criminal background investigation at their own expense.� (Maryland\r\nCode, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates will need to\r\nprovide three letters of recommendation.\r\n
