MDH Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON)\r\n4140 Patterson Avenue\r\nBaltimore, MD 21215\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time contractual position will be to serve in the department’s effort to fulfill the Board’s mission of protecting the public. This position will develop and be responsible for complaints to the Maryland Board of Nursing regarding a potential breach of the standards of nursing practice as they relate to violations of the Nurse Practice Act.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis is a full performance level of work conducting investigations of licensed health care practitioners. This is a major component in fulfilling our mission to protect the public.\r\n\r\n\r\nAdditionally, this position requires:\r\n\r\n\r\n Knowledge of general acceptable standards of health care procedures and policies.\r\n Exceptional research and organizational skills.\r\n Ability to communicate effectively with patients, professionals, other healthcare workers, and the public.\r\n Knowledge of healthcare principles, practices, and procedures.\r\n Ability to present recommendations clearly and concisely.\r\n Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion regarding assigned tasks.\r\n Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, staff of other agencies and the public.\r\n Ability to prepare and present reports or recommendations clearly and concisely.\r\n Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Five years of experience conducting investigations in the areas of health care, insurance, medical malpractice or other related investigative experience as defined by Maryland Board of Physicians.\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience conducting investigations in the areas of health care, insurance, medical malpractice or other related investigative experience as defined by Maryland Board of Physicians for the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Legal or Investigator classifications or Legal or Investigator specialty codes in the Investigation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:\r\n\r\n\r\n Experience with the basic uses and capabilities of computers, information technology and data security\r\n Experience with assessing accurate documentation and record keeping\r\n Experience independently planning, organizing, and executing assigned tasks\r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n

BENEFITS

\r\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n
