In partnership with families and\r\ncommunities, we empower students to think critically and develop a sense of\r\nself and belonging.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis is a twelve-month position in the High School Department of the Frederick Campus of the\r\nMaryland School for the Deaf.\r\n\r\n\r\n

Main Purpose of Job
To lead and manage daily high school operations in partnership with the high school principal;\r\nprovide proactive administrative support, logistics coordination, and operational supervision to maximize the high school principal's time for instructional leadership, staff development, and student achievement.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Monitor student attendance, including managing three-day email follow-ups and preparing five-day\r\nofficial correspondence for the High School Principal;\r\n\r\n\r\nOversee and maintain departmentwide attendance and operational systems, including hallway pass\r\nprotocols and student break regulations;\r\n\r\n\r\nFacilitate Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) meetings for student behavior and social\r\nemotional domains, monitor behavior data collection for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students, and collaborate\r\nclosely with the Behavior Specialist to support classroom interventions and staff coaching;\r\n\r\n\r\nProvide coaching and instructional support to teachers regarding student behavior initiatives and\r\neffective classroom management strategies;\r\n\r\n\r\nManage all levels of student behavioral infractions in coordination with the Behavior Specialist as\r\nappropriate, and assist/collaborate with the High School Principal regarding Level 3 behavioral\r\ninterventions as required;\r\n\r\n\r\nCoordinate student re-entry meetings and the development of corresponding student support plans;\r\n\r\n\r\nInvestigate routine student incidents, including Bullying, Harassment and Intimidation report\r\ninvestigations;\r\n\r\n\r\nDevelop and coordinate schoolwide Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) events in collaboration with the\r\nmental health team, assemblies, and student recognition initiatives, including honor roll celebrations,\r\nhalf-day events, orientation weeks, and end-of-year activities;\r\n\r\n\r\nCollaborate with the High School Principal to compile, analyze, and interpret student performance\r\nand behavioral data;\r\n\r\n\r\nDeliver targeted mentoring and onboarding support to new instructional staff during the initial six\r\nweeks of the academic year, focusing on school Code of Conduct and operational systems and\r\npolicies;\r\n\r\n\r\nAssist the High School Principal in the preparation of department meeting presentations, facilitation\r\nof small group discussions, and delivery of high school-focused professional development;\r\n\r\n\r\nSupport the implementation and fidelity of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) related to\r\nstudent behavior, collaborate with the behavior specialist to support teachers and staff with\r\nbehavioral data collection for quarterly progress reports, and train instructional staff on the\r\nappropriate utilization of accommodations and supplementary aids;\r\n\r\n\r\nAssist in the development and implementation of IEPs related to student behavior and participate in\r\nIEP meetings related to student behavior as appropriate;\r\n\r\n\r\nServe as the secondary Point of Contact (POC) for families during the absence or unavailability of\r\nthe High School Principal;\r\n\r\n\r\nCommunicate with families, staff and students related to student behavior and performance;\r\n\r\n\r\nSupport the design and content of the High School’s monthly digital newsletter, and draft official\r\ncommunications and letters to families;\r\n\r\n\r\nCoordinate logistics, scheduling, and operations for schoolwide assessments, field trips, and special\r\nprograms.\r\n\r\n\r\nSupervise and evaluate job performance of secretaries and teacher aides;\r\n\r\n\r\nAssist in the assessment of staff needs and providing staff development related to behavior and\r\nSEL;\r\n\r\n\r\nParticipate in the coordination of class scheduling and class coverage with substitutes;\r\n\r\n\r\nParticipate in the review of applications, interview applicants, and submit recommendations for hire\r\nof new secretaries and teacher aides as needed;\r\n\r\n\r\nAssume other responsibilities as designated by the Chief Educational Programs Officer and/or High\r\nSchool Principal.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis position reports directly to the High School Principal.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
\r\nEducation: A Bachelor’s Degree required.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: A minimum of three years of successful K-12 work experience with Deaf and Hard of\r\nHearing students is required.\r\n\r\n\r\nUnderstanding of basic behavior principles and school wide behavior programs and interventions\r\nrequired. Fluency in American Sign Language and written English, and knowledge of Deaf\r\ncommunity required. Superior interpersonal and active listening skills required.\r\n\r\n\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n\r\n\r\n Experience in administration/supervision preferred.\r\n Experience in leadership activities that involve organizing, planning, directing, and monitoring\r\n resources preferred.\r\n Experience supporting and managing complex student behavior at the middle school or high school\r\n level preferred.\r\n Knowledge of behavior strategies for Deaf students with additional needs preferred.\r\n A Master's Degree in the Education of Deaf students, Education of Deaf students with additional\r\n disabilities, Curriculum and Instruction, Applied Behavior Analysis, School Counseling or related field\r\n preferred.\r\n MSDE certification/licensure in Administration preferred.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
