Introduction

Main Purpose of Job
Conducts occupational safety and health inspections at the entry level in the\r\nDivision of Labor and Industry.
POSITION DUTIES
\r\nParticipates in formal and on-the-job training programs related to safety and health inspection. Learns\r\nhow to interpret complex technical standards, policies and procedures necessary for enforcement of\r\nthe Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Law.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nUnder supervision, observes and participates in routine safety and health inspections and interventions in private and public sector establishments.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDevelops, prepares and submits oral and/or written reports of field activity as required\r\n\r\n\r\nPerforms other duties as assigned by management.\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Four years of experience inspecting, researching and analyzing chemical and physical workplace hazards affecting employee health.\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:�\r\n1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in industrial hygiene, physical science or life science which includes 12 credit hours in chemistry and 18 additional credit hours in any combination of the following: chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology or industrial hygiene for the required experience. 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance classifications or General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance specialty codes in the Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement, and Compliance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDemonstrated experience with occupational safety and health programs in accordance with regulatory standards and best practices.\r\n�\r\nExperience in industrial hygiene sampling, including the collection and analysis of air, noise, and chemical exposure data, with knowledge of OSHA/NIOSH sampling methods, proper use and calibration of monitoring equipment, and the ability to interpret and report results accurately.\r\n\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees�in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n\r\n\r\nAll candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (LABOR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to LABOR/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.\r\n
