POSITION DUTIES
** This position is eligible for 1 day of telework after the probation period.**\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe main purpose of this position is to perform independent psychological services in a correctional institution at the Doctoral level in order to meet required standards for providing psychological services to incarcerated adults within a State Correctional Institution. The correctional psychologist is responsible for the supervision, direction and management of the facility’s Mental Health Department.\r\n\r\n\r\nSuch services may include, but are not limited to, the following:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Assesses the incarcerated individuals psychological and behavioral status to determine appropriate mental health services using psychological testing and psychotherapeutic techniques\r\n Conducts individual and group therapy with incarcerated individuals within the Correctional Institution\r\n Intervenes in a crisis to deescalate the situation using crisis intervention techniques and suicide prevention planning\r\n Develops treatment and rehabilitation plans for incarcerated individuals who need ongoing therapeutic intervention, implements the plans following psychotherapeutic protocols\r\n Screens and identifies the mental health needs the incarcerated individual and refers for other services such as psychiatric care, inpatient mental health services, case management, as well as community resources for continuing care upon release\r\n Provides clinical supervision and managerial direction to the facility’s mental health/psychology department\r\n Documents the services rendered of those treated by recording services and incarcerated individual events in the electronic health record\r\n Represents the interests and needs of incarcerated individuals mental health in meetings, including but not limited to administrative staff meetings, custody staff meetings, segregation reviews, medical case reviews, quality assurance reviews, psychiatric case consultation and suicide prevention meetings\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.\r\nEducation: A Doctorate degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university accepted by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists.\r\nExperience:�Two�years of experience rendering�psychological services or engaged in psychological research.\r\nNote:�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in�the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the�required experience and education.�\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidates for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position.��\r\n\r\n\r\nApplicants who do not have a license may also apply before receipt of the required license but the application will be designated in pending status by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).� When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to DBM to remove the pending status from the application.\r\n\r\n\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for this classification, prior to probationary appointment, must meet all selection standards as set forth in the Code of Maryland Regulations for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission. Candidates who receive a probationary appointment must satisfactorily complete a prescribed training program prior to permanent appointment. Selection standards of the Correctional Training Commission may be obtained from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.\r\n\r\n
