Summary:
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the successful candidate will be a high functioning individual who is looking to be part of an evolving finance team in a leading Canadian animation company located in Ottawa. The Junior accountant will support vital accounting related to animation productions, working closely with the Controller and Payroll Manager. This role will require adoption of company processes run in Quickbooks Desktop and excel
Role and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for processing, recording, and reconciling transactions
- Responsible for monthly cash, accounts receivable and accounts payable processing, including expense reports and credit card transactions
- Record monthly entries and assist in the monthly, quarterly and year end close procedures, including reconciliation of prepaids and capital assets
- Preparation of HST returns
- Perform payroll functions and benefits administration
- Prepare working papers for Controller review relating to balance sheet management and intercompany accounts
- Assist in other general accounting duties or projects as required
- Provide recommendations for process and document improvement and support the ongoing finance transformation
- Work well individually as well as with the team
Skills & Qualifications:
- 2+ years of accounting experience minimum
- Experienced with QuickBooks Desktop with good grasp of chart of accounts and customer/job set up
- Proficient in Excel
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Strong interest in continuous learning
- Responsive, reliable, highly organized, extremely detail-oriented, and exhibits a strong work ethic
- Exceptionally discreet and reliable in handling highly sensitive and confidential information
- University Degree in Accounting
- Must be a Canadian citizen and an Ontario resident (for tax credit purposes)
- Must be able available to work in office on a hybrid basis
What would make you stand out:
- CPA designation in progress or recently completed is preferred
- Project accounting experience in the service, manufacturing or construction sector
- Experience with cost reports, cost tracking and budgeting
- Experience working with multiple companies
