Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and the Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification\r\nexists is to perform entry-level professional accounting work, including\r\nreviewing source documents, maintaining ledgers and registers or other records\r\nof initial entry, managing control accounts, and preparing periodic and special\r\nfinancial reports. The work responsibilities include obtaining and processing\r\nfinancial data and information, evaluating financial data and information,\r\ncreating financial documentation, and providing consultation and expert advice\r\nto management, employees, or other groups. These responsibilities are performed\r\nwithin a central accounting office or in specific departmental locations that\r\nhave distinct accounting assignments. An accountant performs technical work\r\nrelated to the maintenance of fiscal records by applying professional\r\naccounting principles and methods.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in accounting and one year\r\nof accounting or auditing experience in the public or private sector. A governmental accounting course\r\nmay be substituted for the one year of experience.\r\nNOTE:\r\nQualifying education, training and experience that provide the\r\nrequisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be\r\nconsidered.\r\n

Kind of Examination
