Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n

Nature of Work

The\r\nfundamental reason this classification exists is to perform advanced technical\r\nengineering, inspections, and supervisory work in the field and office. Employees\r\ndirect and oversee the inspection of construction projects by private\r\ncontractors involving city rights-of-way, streets, subdivision and storm water\r\nsystem and are responsible for environmental groundwater and stormwater\r\nsampling for the City of Montgomery. The work responsibilities involve\r\nsupervising full‑time employees, reviewing plans, and conducting detailed\r\ninspections of construction projects such as subdivisions, drainage systems,\r\nbridges, and other public works structures to ensure compliance with safety\r\ncodes, specifications, and regulatory standards. Work involves administering\r\nand monitoring stormwater, floodplain, and environmental programs;\r\ninvestigating unlawful discharges; evaluating erosion and sediment control; and\r\nmaintaining compliance with federal, state, and local requirements including\r\nADEM and FAA regulations. The employee reports directly to the Principal\r\nEngineer.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

High\r\nschool diploma or a GED and at least six (6) years of engineering experience, including\r\nreviewing construction site plans and the inspection of construction sites or\r\nenvironmental groundwater/ water sampling including two (2) years’ experience\r\nsupervising lower-level Engineering Technicians.\r\n\r\n�\r\nNOTE:� Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.� \r\n

Special Requirements

Must have and\r\nmaintain a valid Driver’s License and insurable driving record as needed to\r\noperate a city vehicle to travel to various job sites.� Must be willing to work nights, or weekends\r\nas needed to meet deadlines or prepare and complete special projects.�� \r\n\r\nWORKING\r\nCONDITIONS: Work\r\nis performed predominately outside and includes exposure to extremes in weather\r\nconditions, noise, noxious odors and fumes, hazardous traffic and construction\r\nsite conditions. The work may also involve difficult interpersonal contacts and\r\noccasional irregular hours.��\r\n
