Be part of something incredible. Metals are necessary for our world, but mining historically faced issues with waste, sustainability, and inefficiencies. MineSense is changing that. Our solutions reduce mining waste and environmental impacts while increasing profits and efficiencies. Backed by the best in venture capital and government funds, and recognized by tech industry and sustainability programs, MineSense is doing what many said could not be done: improving mining for people and planet.

We are looking to add an experienced Team Lead – Mechanical Engineering to our Engineering team in Vancouver, BC. Reporting to the Director – Mechanical, this role is responsible for providing technical leadership to a team of engineers responsible for the design, analysis, testing, and validation of mechanical systems. These systems are consistently exposed to vibration, shock, thermal, and other harsh environmental conditions found in global mining operations. An ideal candidate will be a detail oriented self-starter that enjoys developing innovative solutions.

  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers in the design and development of hardware systems operating in demanding mining environments.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering activities across multiple projects, including scope definition, timelines, and resource alignment.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance that drives quality, consistency, and timely delivery of work.
  • Translate product and system requirements into clear engineering scope, tasks, and deliverables.
  • Guide the team through the full product development lifecycle from concept through validation and deployment.
  • Provide technical leadership during design reviews to ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, and operational requirements.
  • Lead structured engineering activities, including root cause analysis and design failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Identify technical risks and support the development of mitigation strategies to protect project timelines and product performance.
  • Lead manufacturing readiness through design documentation, build procedures, and production support.
  • Contribute to improving engineering processes and development workflows to enhance efficiency and design quality.
  • Delegates work to team members, ensuring team goals align with department and company goals.
  • Supervises and reviews ongoing projects, providing mentorship and clarity on professional development.
  • Supports recruitment, onboarding and training of new hires to learn Minesense best practices.
  • Works with department leaders (manager, VP, etc.) to understand key priorities of the team and effectively communicates that throughout the department.
  • Assists department leaders with 360-degree performance review and compensation cycle proposals.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters or PhD preferred).
    • Generally, 6 to 8 or more years of experience in mechanical design and product development, with exposure to complex or harsh operating environments.
    • Generally, 2 to 4 or more years of People leadership experience with engineering teams, including ownership of delivery, technical decision-making, and team coordination.
    • Experience in designing mechanical systems for harsh environments, including shock, vibration, and environmental exposure (e.g., water ingress, dust, temperature extremes).
    • Solid understanding of the dynamic behaviour of mechanical systems and familiarity with analysis and validation approaches for vibration, shock, and durability.
    • Hands-on experience with testing, instrumentation, and validation of mechanical systems.
    • Proficient with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools (experience with ANSYS or similar simulation tools is an asset).
    • Experience with vibration analysis and FEA methods for evaluating mechanical systems under dynamic loading (e.g., modal, harmonic, random vibration, transient, shock).
    • Experience operating electrodynamic shaker tables and environmental chambers.
    • Experience with mining, heavy machinery, oil and gas, aerospace, or other extreme environment equipment.
    • Experience with DFMEA, RCA, DVP&R, and durability testing.
    • Demonstrated ability to drive technical decisions and solve complex engineering problems.
    • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
    • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
