The General Worker within the Sanitation Division is responsible for carrying out routine sanitation and housekeeping activities throughout the feedmill facility to maintain a safe, hygienic, and compliant production environment. The role supports feed safety standards through the execution of dry and limited wet-cleaning activities in accordance with established sanitation procedures, GMP, HACCP requirements and company standards.
The General Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness in production areas, equipment surroundings and elevated workspaces while minimizing contamination, dust accumulation and housekeeping risks.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled cleaning and sanitation activities across production and operational areas.
- Conduct dry cleaning activities including sweeping, scraping, brushing, vacuuming and dust removal from designated areas.
- Carry out approved wet-cleaning activities where required and authorized.
- Remove accumulated feed dust, debris, spillages and waste materials from work areas.
- Maintain cleanliness of floors, walkways, platforms and access routes.
- Clean and maintain assigned areas including but not limited to:
- Production floors and processing areas
- Railings, stairways and elevated walkways
- Silos and external surfaces
- Conveyors and conveyor housings
- Bucket elevators and surrounding structures
- Mixer areas
- Pellet mill surroundings
- Bagging and packing areas
- Feed transfer points
- Storage rooms and utility spaces
- Waste collection areas
- Complete sanitation checklists and assigned cleaning records.
- Report sanitation deficiencies or maintenance concerns to the Shift Leader.
- Record completion of assigned sanitation tasks.
Safety Compliance
- Wear and properly utilize all assigned PPE.
- Follow all HACCP, sanitation, GMP and food/feed safety requirements.
- Adhere to Lock-Out / Tag-Out procedures where applicable.
- Comply with working-at-heights requirements and safe access procedures.
- Report hazards, spillages, damaged equipment and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Support dust control measures to minimize contamination and housekeeping risks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in industrial cleaning, manufacturing, feedmill, food processing or sanitation operations would be an asset.
- Knowledge of industrial cleaning practices.
- Ability to follow procedures and work instructions.
- Understanding of sanitation and hygiene standards.
- Ability to work independently and within teams.
- Good communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
Working Conditions
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Lifting and moving heavy materials and equipment.
- Climbing stairs and working at heights.
- Working in dusty environments.
- Use of PPE and respiratory protection where required.
