We are seeking an experienced Appellate and Motions Paralegal to support attorneys with motion practice, legal research, appellate filings, and case management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in drafting motions, legal memoranda, appellate briefs, and records on appeal, along with experience filing in New York State and federal courts.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, proofread, and assist with the preparation of motions, legal memoranda, appellate briefs, and records on appeal.
  • E-file court documents in state and federal courts, including through NYSCEF, PACER/ECF, and other applicable filing systems.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, appellate printers, vendors, and internal team members.
  • Conduct legal research and gather relevant information from court records, case files, statutes, rules, and other sources.
  • Calendar and track motion, appellate, argument, filing, and court deadlines.
  • Organize, maintain, and manage electronic and physical case files, including folders related to NYSCEF filings, motions, and appeals.
  • Coordinate logistics related to motion practice and appeals, including filings, service, printing, submissions, and deadlines.
  • Serve as a liaison between attorneys and internal or external third parties.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed, including organizing documents, managing correspondence, and assisting with attorney requests.
  • Handle additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a paralegal with a focus on motions, legal memoranda, appellate briefs, and/or appellate practice.
  • Familiarity with New York State and federal court rules and procedures.
  • Experience with NYSCEF and federal ECF filing systems preferred.
  • Strong legal research, writing, proofreading, and cite-checking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Professional communication skills and ability to interact with courts, clients, counsel, vendors, and team members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal document management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with attorneys and staff.

This role is on-site, which gives you the chance to be fully immersed in the work and gain direct experience alongside the team

$65,000$85,000 USD
