About the Role
The Institutional Equities Division (IED) Business Control Unit (BCU) is seeking a Vice President to support the Asia ex-Japan Cash Equities, Equity Derivatives and Prime Brokerage businesses as part of the First Line of Defense (1LOD) Non-Market Risk function.
Based in Hong Kong, the role will partner closely with senior business management, sales, trading, control and support functions to identify, assess and manage non-market risks across the IED businesses. The role provides governance oversight and risk advisory support across regulatory, operational, conduct, technology, cyber, client and franchise risk matters. The successful candidate will be expected to exercise sound risk judgement, independently assess complex issues and provide practical risk-based recommendations to business and control stakeholders.
This is a highly visible role requiring strong risk judgement, stakeholder management skills and the ability to independently navigate complex business and regulatory issues in a dynamic front-office environment.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Advisory & Business Partnership
* Serve as a trusted advisor to senior business stakeholders on non-market risk matters across IED businesses.
* Identify, assess and challenge key regulatory, operational, conduct, technology, cyber and franchise risks arising from business activities, strategic initiatives and emerging risk themes.
* Provide risk input and credible challenge on business initiatives, client-related matters, governance issues and regulatory developments impacting the business.
Governance & Escalation Management
* Lead governance oversight across key business forums, committees and risk management processes.
* Drive timely identification, assessment and escalation of material issues and risk events, ensuring appropriate stakeholder engagement and remediation.
* Coordinate preparation of management reporting and risk updates for senior business and control stakeholders.
Risk & Control Oversight
* Oversee core risk management processes including client risk management and governance, client due diligence reviews, lifecycle risk assessments, incident management, supervisory frameworks, issue management and control enhancements.
* Partner with business, Compliance, Legal, Operational Risk, Technology and other control functions to strengthen the overall control environment.
* Monitor emerging risks and industry developments and assess potential impacts on the business.
Strategic Initiatives & Change Management
* Lead or support strategic risk and control initiatives, regulatory change programs and business-driven transformation projects.
* Drive process improvements and governance enhancements across business risk management activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Required Experience
* 7+ years of relevant experience within Business Risk, Business Controls, Compliance Advisory, Non-Financial Risk, Business Management or other front-office aligned risk functions.
* Experience assessing complex client, regulatory, conduct, reputational or franchise risk matters within a Sales & Trading environment.
* Strong understanding of front-office business models, products, market structure and associated non-market risks.
Technical & Risk Expertise
* Strong understanding of Asia regulatory frameworks and the operating environment for global markets businesses.
* Demonstrated ability to independently assess complex situations, exercise sound risk judgement and formulate practical risk-based recommendations.
* Experience managing regulatory, operational, conduct, technology, cyber or franchise risk matters.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
* Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders across business and control functions.
* Proven ability to build relationships, provide credible challenge and drive outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong project management and execution capabilities, including the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.
Education
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
