POSITION FUNCTION:

The STV Counsellor provides services and individual and/or group counselling support to individuals who identify as women, who have experienced sexual assault, violence/abuse in relationships, or childhood abuse.


DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accept referrals and conduct intake and assessment, engaging the woman to identify her overall situation, and mutually establish goals for counselling and other available service options. Provide counselling support services to the clients that goes beyond basic emotional support but does not involve clinical counselling.
  • Based on the needs of the client, provide individual and/or group-based counselling support, and psychoeducation to facilitate understanding of their experience and the emotional and psychological impact of the trauma.
  • Provide basic information about the criminal justice system, family law, transition houses, victim assistance programs, alcohol and drug programs and mental health services.
  • Maintain thorough records containing at a minimum, the client's basic assessment information notes, relevant session notes, termination summary notes and other data ensuring client confidentiality.
  • Provide accompaniment to community services when needed to meet the needs of clients.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and/or group activities for clients as needed.
  • Support implementation and development of time-limited violence prevention projects as needed.
  • Provide information, advocacy, and support.
  • Perform administrative duties related to the program or project, maintain client records, and document client information in database.
  • Ensure collection and preparation of project information in a format suitable for submission to funders, consultants, and partners. Accurately complete required statistical and narrative reports.
  • Prepare regular reports for the manager on the achievement of quality standards in the program.
  • Promote the program or project; engage in community outreach activities
  •  Provide presentations to service providers and potential clients
  • Assist in developing and delivering information workshops to clients on various topics such as healthy/unhealthy relationships, resources for clients affected by violence, impacts of domestic violence on children, etc.
  • Act as a resource for community partners working on relevant programs or projects, at the request of the manager, represent the agency at consultations, meetings, and conferences on related issues.
  • Other duties, as assigned by the manager.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field, or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience. Those with relevant international education/professional experience are welcome to apply.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience working in the anti-violence sector as a frontline worker; strong advocacy skills and knowledge about the justice systems, family law and immigration processes, housing, welfare, and legal aid;
  • Knowledge about the dynamics of gender-based violence; anti-violence sector; trauma informed practice; community resources, programs and services
  • Provide information, advocacy, support and facilitate appropriate referrals as needed or identified by the client.

COMPENSATION: $31.26 - 34.32 per hour


HOURS:

Full time position (35 hours per week). The successful candidate must be able to commute to our Boundary office at 5575 Boundary Rd. Vancouver, British Columbia V5R 2P9
