Details of Research Project: 

Many of our most important decisions are made in the social context. These decisions frequently involve reciprocal interactions between social agents and incorporate both innate and learned behavioral circuits. The capacity to make these decisions is, however, particularly vulnerable in many neuropsychiatric, neurodevelopmental, and neurodegenerative disorders. 

This research project aims to elucidate the circuits and computation underlying social decision-making and understand how they might go awry. The candidate will take an integrated neuroscience approach to understand these questions using a variety of modern methodologies including molecular genetics, imaging, in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetics, quantitative behavioral analysis, and computational modeling.

Technical Duties: (include any protocols) 

Research background in neural circuits of behavior, systems neuroscience or computational neuroscience preferred. Programming skills (e.g., MatLab, Python) preferred.

Educational and other Requirements for the position: 

A doctoral degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, engineering, computer science or other closely related field.

Goals/Outcomes of the Research Project: The postdoctoral fellow will lead a rigorous in-depth project from conceptualization through the dissemination of results. They are expected to answer a fundamental question intended to fill a gap in the literature. They should aim to achieve both conceptual and technical advances in the field, develop skills as a mentor, and demonstrate confidence in communicating your science. Their daily activities include but are not limited to literature review, study design, equipment setup, performing experiments, data collection and analysis, meeting with the PI and other lab members, interaction with the Mount Sinai community, mentoring junior trainees, writing, and publication.

Goals/Outcomes of the Research Project: 

We expect to provide novel insights into the neural circuits and mechanisms underlying social decision-making. The results of this project will be published in renowned international academic journals.
