Wharton Center Social Media Coordinator

As a Social Media Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing and executing social media strategies to increase Wharton Center for Performing Arts brand awareness, engage our audience, and drive website traffic and conversions. This is an entry-level position ideal for candidates with a strong interest in social media marketing with excellent communication skills. This role is based in East Lansing, Michigan, and operates in a hybrid working environment (a combination of in-person and remote work).

 Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement social media content calendars across various platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and others.
  • Create engaging and relevant content, including posts, images, videos, and stories, that align with our brand identity and target audience.
  • Monitor social media channels for comments, messages, and mentions, respond to inquiries and engage with followers in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute social media campaigns, promotions, and contests.
  • Analyze social media metrics and insights to track performance, identify trends, and optimize content and strategies for maximum reach and engagement.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in social media marketing and incorporate new ideas and technologies into our strategy.
  • Perform administrative tasks necessary to the department's overall administration, including coordination of donation requests, ticket requests, and invoice management, etc.

Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Communications, or Public Relations; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing
  • Affinity for working in a team environment and liaising with a variety of stakeholders. 
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (or something similar), Microsoft 365, and Project Management Tools. 
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once. 
  • Must be willing to work both standard and non-standard schedules, including nights and weekends as needed. 
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative thinker with a keen eye for design and storytelling.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of analytics tools such as Status Brew, Google Analytics or social media analytics platforms.
  • Experience with graphic design, photography, or video editing is a plus.
  • Passion for social media and staying current with the latest trends and developments.
  • Interest in the performing arts.
