  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in cardiac monitoring or healthcare-related field preferred.

  • Previous experience as a Monitor Tech or similar role in a healthcare setting is advantageous.

  • Familiarity with cardiac rhythms and ability to recognize common arrhythmias is highly desirable.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to focus for extended periods while monitoring multiple patients simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients and healthcare team members.

  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations and respond quickly to emergent situations.

  • Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation purposes.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while monitoring cardiac monitors and performing related tasks.

  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate monitor controls and navigate computer systems.

  • Visual acuity to accurately read and interpret cardiac rhythms displayed on monitors.

  • Emotional resilience and ability to cope with stress and uncertainty inherent in healthcare environments.

    Minimum Requirements:  At least 1 year in a .6fte or greater Monitor Technician I position at MUSC or 1 year of Monitor Technician/Telemetry work experience in a health care facility and succeful completion of the EKG training/competency during the orientation period in order to remain in the Monitor Technician II position.   Credentials:  Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
