JOB SUMMARY
The Bailiff is responsible for setting up and coordinating the traffic flow for persons and paperwork associated with the Municipal Court. This position is part-time and paid hourly, with weekly hours determined by the court schedule. Average of 12 hours weekly. No guaranteed hours.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Prepares the courtroom and judge’s desk to ensure that all supplies and materials are provided.
Checks courtroom for cleanliness.
Announces the entrance of the judge.
Electronically checks in individuals for court.
Transports all paperwork to and from the courtroom.
Directs questions and payment of fines to the Court Transaction Window.
Reports need for police or medical assistance to the proper authorities as necessary.
Delivers subpoenas on a regular basis.
Verifies the jury list and directs juror movement.
Directs traffic in court and maintains order in the courtroom.
Performs other related assigned duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
High school diploma or GED;
Three (3) years of relevant work experience; or
Equivalent combination of education and experience; and
Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Skill in the use of utilizing computer databases, Microsoft Office 365 programs, including word processing, as well as performing online research
Skill in being well-organized;
Ability to communicate clearly;
Ability to maintain confidential information;
Ability to drive and deliver subpoenas;
Works as an ambassador of the Town with the public and exhibits strong interpersonal skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and reading.
The employee is required to stand continuously and walk frequently.
The employee consistently maintains balance either sitting, standing, or walking and is occasionally required to stoop or crouch. The employee may occasionally push, pull, lift, and move objects up to 10 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. This position requires driving and accessing outside locations.
