JOB SUMMARY
The Recreation Specialist for the Recreation Department Community Affairs & Marketing Division is responsible for supporting the Division Chief and the division Coordinators with the production and execution of various community events, departmental marketing and sponsorship initiatives, and for implementing Culture, Arts & Pride Commission (CAP) programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for assisting with various functions of the Recreation Department’s marketing, community events, sponsorship, and cultural activities.
Facilitate event permit processing by assembling all necessary information/attachments, routing to proper departments/staff for review/input on required conditions and for securing Division Chief approval before sending to the Executive Office for final approval.
Supervise and organize various CAP projects, programs, and meetings with support from the division Administrative Assistants and Division Chief.
Participate in execution of events including supervising Farmers Market event days as needed to support the Farmers Market Manager/Events Coordinator.
Respond to general park-use and permit inquiries.
Write and update reports, letters, forms/applications, work orders, purchase order and credit card authorization requests, and other written correspondence, routing to proper staff for approvals as needed.
Maintain and organize accurate records by updating files, performing word processing, and computer data entry.
Assist in the production and distribution of flyers, banners, certificates, invitations, and other promotional materials.
Assist with promotion of division activities by updating websites and calendar listings.
Greet public and provide answers to inquiries related to parks, permits, events and other general information.
Assist with registration and sponsor/vendor payments via Rec Trac.
Assist with special projects as needed.
Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
Education and Experience: Associate degree and three (3) years of related work experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
First Aid/CPR, AED and Darkness to Light certifications/training are required within one year of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of department practices and services provided
Knowledge of office procedures and machines
Skill in the use of oral and written communication
Skill in data processing and being well organized
Skill in the use of personal computers and office software including word processing, database, internet and spreadsheet applications
Skill in the use of mathematics
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a detailed and effective manner
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and other community members
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
Ability to meet and interact with Town employees, officials and the public effectively and in a tactful manner
Graphic design and basic web editing experience preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, usage of computers and reading.
This position requires substantial repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, grasp or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee consistently maintains balance either sitting, standing or walking and is occasionally required to stoop or crouch. The employee may occasionally push, pull or lift and move objects up to 20 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours for events or in response to natural disasters and emergencies.
