OVERVIEW:
The Communications Coordinator supports the Director of Marketing and Communications in building and maintaining a consistent public voice for the regional office covering NASW-Illinois, NASW-Wisconsin, and NASW-Missouri. This role manages the chapters' social media presence, produces and coordinates content across digital and email channels, and works with chapter staff and members to source and package stories that reflect the work of social workers in all three states.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
Manage day-to-day social media activity across the regional office's platforms, including scheduling, posting, and monitoring engagement.
Create and coordinate content, including graphics, short-form copy, and member spotlights, for use across social media, email, and web.
Coordinate the solicitation, collection, and organization of member-submitted content for use in chapter communications.
Assist with the creation, formatting, and distribution of member emails and e-newsletters.
Support the Director of Marketing and Communications on broader communications projects across Illinois, Wisconsin, and Missouri.
BASIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:
Social Media and Content Management
Maintain and update the regional office's social media profiles across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others as adopted).
Build and maintain a content calendar spanning all three chapters, balancing statewide and chapter-specific priorities.
Draft, design, and schedule social media posts, including graphics and short video, using tools such as Canva
Monitor social channels for comments, messages, and mentions, and route member questions to the appropriate staff.
Track engagement metrics and prepare periodic summaries for the Director of Marketing and Communications.
Member Content Coordination
Coordinate outreach to members across Illinois, Wisconsin, and Missouri to solicit stories, photos, testimonials, and other submitted content.
Collect, organize, and lightly edit member-submitted content for use in newsletters, social media, and the website.
Maintain a running library of usable member content and releases for future publication.
Coordinate with chapter staff in each state to identify local members, events, and stories worth featuring.
Email and Digital Communications
Assist with drafting, formatting, and proofreading member emails, e-newsletters, and event announcements.
Build and distribute email campaigns using the association's email platform, and maintain segmented distribution lists by state and interest area.
Support routine updates to chapter website content, including event listings, news items, and resource pages.
Help maintain a consistent visual identity and tone across email, web, and social channels for all three chapters.
General Communications Support
Assist the Director of Marketing and Communications with promotional materials for conferences, trainings, and advocacy events.
Support the drafting of routine announcements, press materials, and internal communications as needed.
Assist with tracking communications requests from chapter staff and committees across the three states.
Provide general administrative and project support to the Marketing and Communications function.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Associate's or bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
1-3 years of experience managing social media accounts or creating content for an organization, nonprofit experience a plus.
Working knowledge of social media scheduling tools.
Familiarity with basic graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Express, or similar).
Experience with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar).
Comfort working with website content management systems.
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with attention to a consistent organizational voice.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and coordinate content across three states and multiple stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
This position is remote but applicant must reside in one of the three chapter states and may require occasional travel within Illinois, Wisconsin, and Missouri for chapter events and conferences.
