Job Summary:
 
The Software Engineer in Test II – Performance Testing plays a key role in ensuring the performance, scalability, and stability of Nextech's applications and platforms. This individual designs and executes automated performance testing solutions, analyzes system performance data, identifies bottlenecks, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performing software. The role combines performance engineering, automation, observability, and continuous testing practices to support reliable, scalable solutions while driving quality and operational excellence throughout the development lifecycle.

In addition to adhering to Nextech’s conduct and behavioral standards, responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and execute scalable performance test strategies to validate the reliability, scalability, and responsiveness of enterprise applications and distributed systems.
  • Develop and maintain automated performance test scripts using k6 to simulate real-world user workloads and identify system bottlenecks.
  • Analyze application, database, and infrastructure performance metrics to identify performance issues and provide recommendations for optimization.
  • Design and maintain reusable performance testing frameworks, utilities, dashboards, and reporting solutions.
  • Build and maintain performance dashboards and automated reports using InfluxDB, Grafana, and Flux queries.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Managers, DevOps, and Infrastructure teams to establish performance requirements and integrate performance testing into the software development lifecycle.
  • Integrate performance testing into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous performance validation.
  • Execute load, stress, endurance, spike, scalability, and capacity testing across cloud-native and distributed application environments.
  • Develop SQL queries to support test validation, performance analysis, and database performance investigations.
  • Produce performance analysis reports, communicate findings, and partner with development teams to validate performance improvements.
  • Support performance testing in containerized and distributed environments using Docker and Kubernetes where applicable.
  • Promote performance engineering best practices, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Define, monitor, and analyze key performance metrics, including latency, throughput, and system resource utilization, using observability platforms such as InfluxDB, Prometheus, Grafana, and similar tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of Software Development, Software Engineer in Test (SET/SDET), or Performance Engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with k6 for performance testing, including test scripting, workload modeling, optimization, and reporting.
  • Strong SQL querying skills, preferably with Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL).
  • Experience with InfluxDB and Grafana, including Flux queries, dashboard development, templating, alerting, and automated reporting.
  • Experience integrating performance testing into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of performance testing methodologies, including load, stress, endurance, spike, scalability, and capacity testing.
  • Experience testing REST APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications.
  • Familiarity with application performance monitoring and observability tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills in Agile development environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify workflow gaps, performance bottlenecks, and complex edge cases.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, and ChatGPT to improve engineering productivity and quality.
  • Hands-on experience with performance profiling and debugging tools, including Chrome DevTools.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for scaling performance test runners and environments.
  • Experience designing and executing distributed performance testing environments.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems, HIPAA compliance, and regulated enterprise environments.
  • Experience establishing performance engineering standards, metrics, and reporting practices.
  • Proficiency with Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and log analysis tools, including Datadog, Azure Log Analytics, Dynatrace, and New Relic.
