SCCT Specialist Case Lead

About the team and what we do:

The Sensitive and Complex Casework Team (SCCT) sits within the NMC’s legal services and plays a vital role in progressing the most complex, high-risk and sensitive fitness to practise cases. Our work supports the NMC’s statutory duty to protect the public, while ensuring that investigations are fair, proportionate and timely.

The team works closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders, often on cases that involve heightened public interest or significant risk considerations. A key area of focus is maternity-related cases.

As part of SCCT, you’ll be working in a collaborative, supportive environment where shared learning, consistency of approach and professional development are actively encouraged.

Your role and Impact

The Specialist Case Lead plays a key role in managing sensitive and complex cases, including neonatal and maternal deaths, coroner findings, and major inquiries. In this role, you will support casework and ensure matters are conducted in a fair, proportionate, and legally compliant manner, maintaining the highest professional standards.
