Overview
The New York Public Library (NYPL) is hiring an Associate Manager, School-Age Community Outreach (SACO) to provide library outreach services to children across NYPL locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. This role is part of the School-Age Programs and Services team and plays a vital role in expanding access to NYPL’s high-quality, inclusive services to children ages 6–12 and the web of supportive adults around them.

The School-Age Community Outreach team is committed to bringing library experiences to populations that may not have access to them—by meeting our patrons where they are. Additionally, the team supports branch staff in their outreach through direct and indirect support and professional development. Our support is geared towards all patrons, with a special focus on underserved communities.

Some expectations for this role are that within:

1 month, this person will:

Review and understand the outreach goals, scope, and current landscape
Begin to establish relationships with the branch staff
Plan and attend outreach events

3 months, this person will:

Plan and lead outreach activities for children in collaboration with NYPL’s community partners
Travel across Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island to facilitate events and support programming
Develop and refine outreach materials and event strategies

6 months and beyond, this person will:

Co-develop and refine outreach materials and event strategies
Contribute feedback and insight about potential program improvement and expansion

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Manager and Outreach Associate to implement a high-quality, scalable, and sustainable outreach strategy for students ages 6-12
Training and professional development opportunities to most effectively provide a meaningful and successful experience for library staff
Design and deliver school-age programs including bilingual offerings, tailored to outreach settings such as schools, afterschool programs, and community fairs
Communication and support for branch staff at outreach locations, including regular visits to branches and partners in the Bronx, Staten Island, and Manhattan
Coordinate outreach logistics, including the purchasing and organization of materials
Coordinate and communicate regularly with internal partners including Children’s Programs and Services, Communications, Procurement and more
Maintain and analyze program data, including attendance using airtable and drupal
Support the implementation of new projects and initiatives
Perform other related duties as required
