POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Instructs children in developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative growth in the Rising Leaders Program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists theSite Leadinimplementing anemergent curriculumandgroupactivities to stimulate growth in language, reading, math, science, social and motor skills as well as emotional development and creative ability.
- Assistingthe lead teacher inmaintaininganinclusivelearning environment that fosters creativeexplorationdemonstratesrespect for the child’s work, while encouraging communication and relationships.
- Respects children always, interact at their eye level, showingwarm, caring, and pleasant demeanor.
- Knows thenameof children, parents, and other staff. Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Assistwith homework help or academic support as needed.
- Presents a professional manner through a neat and clean appearance.FollowsYMCA dress code.
- Maintainseffective andappropriate communication(written, verbal, and non-verbal)with all program constituents.
- Assists theSite Leadinmaintainingall required documentation
- Upholdsall policies, practices, and procedures of the YMCA of Muncie and Mitchell Early Childhood and Family Center.
- Supports Annual Campaign and other fund-raising activities.
- Completes incident and accident reports asrequired.
- Upholdguidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook of the Association.
- All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Certifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Associate’s degreein ECE/Child Development or equivalent (a minimum of 24 credit hours Early Childhood/Child Developmentcoursework)ispreferred.
- New Employee Orientation, Child Care Child Abuse Prevention, BloodbornePathogens and CommunicableDisease within30daysof hire to be refreshed everyyear. .
- Adult/Infant CPR/AED, First Aidrequiredbefore employment (counted in ratios) and kept current.
Experience
- One (1) to three (3) years ofpreviousexperience in working with children in licensed and/or NAEYC accredited center required. Experience in supervising others preferred.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license, insurable driver’s record according to the YMCA’s insurance carriers, and have reliable transportation to travel for business meetings, training events, YMCA site visits,vendorsand suppliers, etc.
- Computer skillsneeded, particularly with Microsoft Office and email applications, along withabilityto learn the internal YMCA software.
- Basic knowledge and communication to engage with children and families.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time, to talk and hear, to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, to climb or balance, to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, occasional bending, reaching or squatting. The incumbent is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Also required is frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the telephone. Time is spent both indoors and outdoors. The condition of the air is normal/average air conditioned/ventilated. The noise level is normal to loud within an active YMCA program environment. Must have passed a physical examination conducted within the past 12 months prior to beginnning work.
